In a new interview, Teyonah Parris, star of the upcoming MCU installment The Marvels, expressed her excitement for a Monica Rambeau, Ms. Marvel, and Captain Marvel team-up. The film is a sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel, and will see Brie Larson return as Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. Veteran Marvel actors Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Randall Park (Jimmy Woo), will also be reprising their roles for The Marvels, in addition to introducing Iman Vellani as breakout superhero, Kamala Khan, a.k.a., Ms. Marvel.

Monica made her superhero debut in episode 9 of the Disney+ series, WandaVision. The daughter of Carol Danvers’ best friend Maria (Lashana Lynch), Monica follows in her mother’s footsteps and joins the U.S. Air Force. She’s later recruited by S.W.O.R.D. to investigate the Westview Anomaly (controlled by Wanda), and finds herself trapped in the “Hex” when looking for more information. After entering and re-entering the Hex’s walls, Monica’s physiology is mutated, and gives her the abilities of spectral vision and energy absorption, rendering her essentially bulletproof. While not much else is known about the MCU’s take on Monica’s character and her powers, her strengths are sure to be explored in The Marvels and beyond.

While speaking with ET Online, Parris expressed her excitement for an epic Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau team-up. She also described working with director Nia DaCosta on The Marvels as a “really special experience,” and praised DaCosta’s artistic vision. Both women also worked together on the upcoming horror flick, Candyman. Parris’ full quote can be read below:

“I’m floating on cloud nine. I’m really excited to be able to team up with Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan. It’s really cool to all be in one place. And then to have Nia DaCosta, who directed Candyman, also come over to The Marvels with us has been a really special experience. Just having the point of view of a woman—of a Black woman—and Nia’s so smart and her perspective and her visual aesthetic, it’s been really exciting.”

Filming for The Marvels will head overseas to Italy later this month. Larson revealed that the movie is full of “juicy secrets,” and will leave fans excited for more. Other than that, little else is known about the upcoming project. But one thing’s for sure: Larson is ready for her return to the MCU. Recently, the star showed off her superhero strength in some training photos of her practicing archery. While it’s unlikely that Carol Danvers will be going face-to-face with Hawkeye anytime soon, her impressive physique proves that Larson is prepared to return to her role as Captain Marvel. As of now, the movie is slotted to release in November 2022 as part of the MCU’s Phase 4.

With the recent confirmation of the Multiverse in Loki and What If…?, The Marvels is sure to be an exciting addition to the MCU. A Ms. Marvel series is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2022, and will serve as a set up for the Captain Marvel sequel. Prior to The Marvels are the studio’s other upcoming releases; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are all set to debut next year. But for now, it will be interesting to see how Phase 4’s solo installments converge into one overarching plot, and how big of a role The Marvels will play in the MCU’s future.
