Clone Wars Recap Everything You Need To Know Before Season 7

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is returning for season 7, which will be the show’s final installment. The Clone Wars has been one of the most successful properties to come out of the Star Wars franchise. The series was the introduction to fan-favorite characters like Captain Rex and Ahsoka Tano. It also fleshed out the prequel era of Star Wars, providing character development and details about iconic Jedi like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Mace Windu, and Anakin Skywalker.

Some time has passed since The Clone Wars originally ended its run with season 6. The final episode of the series aired a year before Disney’s sequel trilogy began. Now that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has concluded the Skywalker saga, going back to the prequel era is a smart move by Lucasfilm.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars has covered many stories and characters in the course of its 6 seasons. Season 7 of The Clone Wars will be following up on a few loose story threads and potentially even cross into Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Clone Wars Series & Timeline Explained

Star Wars: The Clone Wars was the final project produced by George Lucas before Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm. With Dave Filoni at the helm of the series, The Clone Wars quickly became one of the highest-quality offerings of the Star Wars franchise.

Set between the events of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, The Clone Wars bridged the gap between a very important era of Star Wars. While the prequel trilogy primarily focused on Anakin Skywalker’s descent into Darth Vader, The Clone Wars took time to explore the wider universe. Sagas focusing on the Jedi, the Sith, the clones and the politics of the Republic quickly came became some of the most popular of the series. The Clone Wars became so popular that it was placed into Star Wars canon when the Disney acquisition took place, the only non-film adaptation to be given that status at the time.

Perhaps the lasting legacy of The Clone Wars is Ahsoka Tano. Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice, Ahsoka felt like a breath of fresh air to the Star Wars franchise and remains one of the most popular characters to date. Most recently, she returned as a Force ghost to guide Rey at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. Season 7 will be focusing on her character again, with a battle with Darth Maul on the way.

How Clone Wars Season 6 Ended

Clone Wars Recap Everything You Need To Know Before Season 7

Star Wars: The Clone Wars left off at season 6 with an arc focusing on Yoda. The old Jedi master, severely clouded from the events of the Clone Wars and full of visions for the future to come, Yoda is greeted by the voice of Qui-Gon Jinn. Qui-Gon tells Yoda to go through the trials that will eventually lead him to become a Force Ghost. Jumping off the final scenes of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Yoda instructs Obi-Wan to train with the ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn, these final episodes showcase Yoda’s own journey. The finale of The Clone Wars at the time featured Yoda’s face-off against Darth Bane and eventually coming to the conclusion that the Jedi will go through more trials and tribulations. However, the series leaves off with a reveal that Yoda is told about a Skywalker other than Anakin, setting up Yoda’s role in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Outside of Yoda’s arc, there were many memorable episodes that set up the stage of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The season heavily teased Order 66 through the exploration of the clones. This is a story thread that will undoubtedly be explored in season 7 as many of the earlier episodes will be focusing on the clones once again.

What Clone Wars Season 7’s Story Will Be

Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 will be 12 episodes long and will be bridging the final gaps between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Anakin Skywalker has gotten a redesign to closely resemble his appearance in the final prequel film. From the looks of the trailer, it seems the final season of The Clone Wars will overlap with the events of Revenge of the Sith. The Clone Wars left off with many unanswered questions. Ahsoka Tano, Darth Maul, and Captain Rex all appear in Star Wars: Rebels, but audiences did not get to see how these characters survived the events of Order 66. The Clone Wars will fill in these final gaps in their stories.

The Clone Wars season 7 will also be covering the Siege of Mandalore. Season 5 of the series showcased the battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. Maul eventually takes over Mandalore, eventually forcing Obi-Wan to watch him kill Duchess Satine, the only woman Kenobi ever loved. The Clone Wars will be putting a capstone to this story, with the trailer teasing a battle between Ahsoka and Maul. It appears that the final season will be overlapping with Order 66 and the battle of Mandalore will happen concurrently.

The Clone Wars will rightfully bridge the series through Revenge of the Sith. This move will not only cement the legacy and importance of The Clone Wars, but also give the prequels more opportunities to be fleshed out. The era of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi is quickly becoming more beloved by fans and audiences alike and The Clone Wars is a big reason why.
