Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

Though anthologies are popular on TV, there are very few movies that could truly be considered a genuine anthology series, which is what makes the Cloverfield movies such a rare breed and the perfect candidate for some incredible conspiracy theories. Starting with one of the best found footage movies, the Cloverfield movies are utterly mysterious, as they can range from being set entirely in a bunker to being epic space odyssey’s and still be connected in some way.

With the series now being three movies deep, all of which are sprinkled with hints and riddles, there are a ton of unanswered questions that will probably remain unanswered for a long time, leaving fans to fill in the blanks.

10 Crazy: Emmett Is The Real Villain In The Bunker

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

As Howard claims the photos of a mysterious girl is Megan, Emmett has a different testimony, as he claims the girl is Brittany, who was his little sister’s friend that went missing. This theory suggests that Emmett is actually the one who is lying, being the one who murdered the little girl, and he lied to not only hide his guilt, but to frame Howard, as well. However, there’s very little evidence to give this theory the time of day.

9 Makes Sense: All Three Movies Take Place In Different Dimensions

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

Though the movie wasn’t originally a Cloverfield movie, which is one of the most interesting behind the scenes facts about the film, 10 Cloverfield Lane is clearly connected to Cloverfield and the other sequel, The Cloverfield Paradox, but maybe not in the way we think.

In The Cloverfield Paradox, the Cloverfield monster is revealed at the end of the movie after a group of astronauts inadvertently open a bunch of parallel universes. One theory explains that this could mean that the two remaining astronauts fell into the universe in which the first Cloverfield movie takes place.

8 Crazy: The Original Has Two Monsters

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

Having seemingly spent hours working on equations and measuring the enormous creature to dozens of buildings, one Redditor suggests that there is actually more than one monster roaming around New York in the original found footage movie.

The theorist posits that the monster’s tail alone is almost three times the length of the Brooklyn Bridge, but, in other shots, the monster’s tail is barely longer than 60 feet, meaning that there must be two of the creatures tearing up NY. Though the theory does make sense on paper, it’s more than likely down to continuity errors in the editing and digital effects.

7 Makes Sense: The Red Flash Emmett Saw Wasn’t Aliens

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

Though there’s a lot of things you didn’t know about The Cloverfield Paradox, this conspiracy takes it even further. In 10 Cloverfield Lane, Emmett notices a red flash in the distance, and, as it was never revealed exactly what it was, it has led to a ton of speculation, the most interesting of which is that what Emmett sees is the explosion in The Cloverfield Paradox that sends the crew into another dimension.

6 Crazy: The Monsters Are Toxic To Humans

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

The Cloverfield monsters are some of the deadliest horror movie monsters, and the tiny monsters running around in the subway in the first movie are arguably even scarier than the giant ones, as they’re able to squeeze into much tighter spaces. As Marlena is scratched by one of them and then dies from its venom, it’s possible that the monsters are even more toxic to humans than they seem.

As there is green gas clearly being emitted from an unknown spacecraft, it has led many to believe that the monsters are toxic to humans. However, Michelle takes off her hazmat suit several times in 10 Cloverfield Lane, disproving the theory.

5 Makes Sense: The Monster Is A Biological Weapon

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

Though the monster is just a baby, which is one of the things people didn’t know about the original movie, it’s possible that there’s more to the creature than we actually know. This theory puts forward that the creature is actually a biological weapon from an alien species sent to earth to wipe out the human race. The theory goes even further to mention that the alien was planted on earth years ago, just waiting to wake up at the perfect time.

4 Crazy: Cloverfield Exists In The Lost Universe

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

With both Lost and Cloverfield being produced by J.J. Abrams and both of them containing mysteries that have not yet been satisfyingly wrapped up, it’s fun to think that the two franchises are connected.

It almost seems possible at first, too, as The Dharma Initiative symbol from Lost can be seen at the beginning of Cloverfield, and the initiative is considered to be the catalyst to the end of the world. As the monster in Cloverfield is unstoppable, it has led fans to believe that when Desmond pulled the cork out of the heart of the island, it unleashed the monster into New York. However, the Dharma initiative logo is likely more of an Easter egg than anything.

3 Makes Sense: The Monster Was Created By A Cloverfield Soda Company

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

Being one of the many franchises set in the Cloverfield metaverse, Slusho is a Japanese soda company that can be seen advertised throughout the movies, and it was also a big part of the first movie’s marketing campaign. The theory goes that as Slusho’s main additive is Seabed Nectar, and that the additive can only be acquired by deep-sea drilling, and, in doing so, the soft drink company woke the monster, who was laying dormant at the bottom of the ocean.

2 Crazy: Cloverfield Exists In The Star Trek Universe

Cloverfield 5 Crazy Fan Theories (& 5 That Actually Make Sense)

Being possibly the biggest stretch of all of the theories, one optimistic fan theorizes that Cloverfield and Star Trek exist in the same universe. Tagruato, the conglomerate that owns Slusho, doesn’t only exist in Cloverfield, but it also exists in the Star Trek universe, too. However, this well-researched theory can be chalked up to just being another Easter egg, as Abrams produced both Cloverfield and the Star Trek reboot.

1 Makes Sense: Howard Saw Proof Of Aliens In The Army

As Howard worked in the military, as one theorist points out, it isn’t hard to imagine that he saw proof of extra-terrestrial life, which led to him being discharged. Howard is somewhat of a conspiracy theorist himself, and his paranoia could be some form of PTSD that he acquired upon finding evidence that aliens actually do exist. Well, as Howard was right all along, he had the last laugh, in the end… kind of.
