There are so many rivalries in Netflix’s Cobra Kai, it’s tough to keep track, and even tougher to compare them. Here are some of the best and worst.

There are so many rivalries in the Netflix series Cobra Kai, it’s tough to keep track, and even tougher to pick which ones would be considered the best and worst among them. From Johnny and Daniel’s constant back-and-forth between despising and tolerating one another to Kreese getting under both of their skins, it’s not just about the kids. But with the kids, there is so much anger floating around not only between the Cobra Kai and Miyagi-do dojos as a whole but between specific people within them. It’s no wonder that the series has been considered one of the best TV shows on Netflix for 2020.
Thankfully, season three saw plenty of great character arcs and popular characters show tremendous growth. And with a fourth season already ordered, what would Cobra Kai be without plenty of ongoing rivalries?
10 Worst: Demetri And Hawk
Hawk’s entire character arc went too far. From the awkward kid who was bullied about his lip scar to an over-confident bully himself who was over-compensating, he completely forgot all of his values and, most importantly, his best friend Demetri.
Not only that but for no good reason, Hawk became totally violent towards Demetri, even breaking his arm this season despite being fully aware that he was a far better fighter than Demetri. Their rivalry made little sense and crossed lines it didn’t need to cross.
9 Best: Daniel And Johnny
What makes the rivalry between Daniel and Johnny so great is not only that it has lasted for over 30 years, but that both keep trying so hard to end it yet life continues to throw them curveballs that prevent it. Ali hit the nail on the head when she told them both that they are more alike than they realize which is why they have such a tough time getting along.
Every time it seems like the pair might bury the hatchet once and for all and even potentially become friends, they end up despising one another once again, sometimes to the point of physically fighting. It’s wonderfully relatable to watch as, while both men have changed in some ways, they are still very much the same kids they once were.
8 Worst: Daniel And Tom Cole
Tom Cole is the typical sleazy owner of the rival car dealership in town who, fans of the show might recall, came to visit and antagonize Daniel in a previous season and had his drink swiftly kicked out of his hand.
In season three, Tom returns to try and capitalize on the bad press Daniel has been receiving and buy LaRusso Auto out from under him on the cheap. While it wouldn’t be realistic to have Daniel run a successful business with no competition, despite how much of a “good guy” he is and has always been, his rivalry with Cole never really adds much to the story.
7 Best: Sam And Tori
Tori has so much pent-up anger, and in some ways, it’s understandable given her tough living situation. As fans get to see in season three, she works multiple jobs and lives in low-income housing, struggling to go to school and support her ill mother and younger brother.
While she’s initially jealous of Sam because of her picture-perfect upbringing and wealth, the fact that Miguel never got over his ex is what pushes Tori over the edge. Sam wants nothing to do with Tori but Tori continues to make it her mission to take Sam down. While Sam went through some anxiety over the situation, however, she proved by the end that she can hold her own and won’t stoop to Tori’s level unless she has to defend herself.
6 Worst: Miguel And Robby
It seems too forced that Johnny would end up becoming a father figure to Miguel who becomes the karate rival of Robby, the biological son that Johnny abandoned as a child. Add Sam to the mix, who both young men fall for, and it fuels the fire.
The rivalry, which seems to mirror the original rivalry between Daniel and Johnny, was entertaining for a while until it led to Robby delivering a swift kick that he surely must have realized would have sent Miguel over the edge of a stairwell. It almost killed Miguel and took what could have been an innocent rivalry among teenagers too far.
5 Best: Johnny And Kreese
It’s unimaginable the feelings Johnny must have had seeing Kreese again after so many decades. Kreese was like a father figure to Johnny and in many ways, the things Kreese taught Johnny led to his life turning out the way it did. He didn’t have confidence in himself and seeing how much of a hold Kreese had on Johnny along with his troubled home life makes fans of this series see Johnny as the hero, not the villain.
The pair shared epic fight scenes over the seasons, including the one at the end of season three that almost saw Johnny killed until Daniel showed up. But it isn’t just about broken glass and noses – their rivalry is made all the more interesting from just the exchanged glances and words.
4 Worst: Cobra Kai And Miyagi-do
While it’s the most prominent rivalry on the series, and many fans would consider it the best, when digging deeper, the rivalry between the two main dojos makes little sense. All of the kids were once friends, and when some get kicked out of Cobra Kai, they join Miyagi-do and instantly become enemy number-one.
Miyagi-do students seem to want to have nothing to do with Cobra Kai, yet those under Kreese’s thumb continue to do immature and childish things and start brutal battles for no logical reason. The fact that they’re so focused on taking down Miyagi-do goes against the very idea that Cobra Kai believes that they’re the best. Why would they care about this small group of students in a dojo effectively made up of their rejects? What would fighting them prove?
3 Best: Daniel And Chozen
Thirty-plus years in the making, the battle between Daniel and Chozen in the second Karate Kid movie almost ended in death. Daniel won and decided to spare Chozen. Now in Okinawa, Yumiko decided to set up a meeting between Daniel and Chozen so they could bury the hatchet.
Viewers could cut the tension with a knife, and it was hilarious to watch Daniel try to break-through Chozen’s tough exterior only to hit a wall every time. When Chozen finally let his guard down, though, it was really fun to watch.
2 Worst: Carmen And Johnny
Their relationship was going well but then ended in rivalry by the end of season two after Miguel got injured and Carmen blamed Johnny. They kissed and made up, literally, by the end of season three.
But the fact that Carmen was okay with Johnny so quickly after seemed unlikely. If she truly thought it was his fault, why was she so forgiving once Miguel was on the mend? Maybe she only had harsh feelings towards him in the heat of the moment. But still, while it’s understandable that Carmen might eventually forgive Johnny, the fact that she went from rival to lover so quickly seemed odd.
1 Best: Amanda And Kreese
Fans never saw this rivalry coming but wow, was it ever fantastic. After saying enough is enough, Amanda decided to visit Kreese in his dojo to give him a piece of her mind. She couldn’t stand to watch the smirk on his face and smacked him.
As one would expect with the clever and cunning Kreese, she was met with a restraining order that he filed against her before she had the chance to file one against him. It was this rivalry that convinced Amanda of how formidable the enemy was that Daniel and Johnny were dealing with.
