After Sledgehammer Games initially tried their hand at the Call of Duty franchise by taking the reins of Modern Warfare 3, many fans of the first-person shooter series believed the studio made so many missteps with the title – even though it set a sales record of $3 billion over 16 days – that the Call of Duty brand had been tarnished for good. However, the developer collectively stepped their game up with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, as the title grew into a critical and commercial success, becoming the top-selling game of 2014.
While the base model proved to be satisfying for many fans of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Sledgehammer Games continued to inject the release with new lifeblood due to its three previously released DLC packs – Havoc, Ascendance, and Supremacy – which introduced the popular Exo Zombies to the game. Now, there’s less than a day away before Advanced Warfare’s upcoming Reckoning DLC is available, and Activision has officially dropped the final trailer for the Exo Zombies Descent story, as well as new screenshots of the expansion’s multiplayer mode.
As the footage above shows, the Exo Zombies Descent finale is action-packed, and continues the narrative thread of Carrier. With Oz – John Malkovich’s character – now apart of the undead, exoskeleton suit-fused hordes, the remaining squad comprised of Bill Paxton, Rose McGowan, John Bernthal, and the boomstick-bearer himself, Bruce Campbell, are in a fight for their lives aboard the remote ocean Atlas survival facility. And although one of their own has turned into a monster, the crew continues unabated as they attempt to find out what’s really behind the global pandemic, and the awful secret nestled within Atlas.
On top of the Descent experience, the Reckoning DLC serves up four new multiplayer maps. Firstly, there’s Overload, which is set in downtown New Baghdad with multi-tiered modern architecture that provides solid tactical gameplay for medium to long-range battles. Secondly is Quarantine, and it’s a medium sized island with a bottomless disposal pit at its center that opens on a timer. Then, there’s Fracture – a huge arctic landscape that requires long sight lines for success – and finally, Swarm, which offers close-quarters combat in a war-torn Seoul, South Korea.
Unfortunately for Microsoft fans, Advanced Warfare’s final add-on is set to become the last CoD timed-exclusive for Xbox Live, for during E3 2015’s showing of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, it was announced the upcoming game’s DLC will go on sale for PlayStation before PC and Xbox. With that in mind, the Reckoning DLC will be ready to download tomorrow on Xbox 360 and Xbox One for $14.99.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is currently available for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. As previously mentioned, the Reckoning DLC will be available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One beginning tomorrow on August 4th, but players on other platforms will have to wait about a month or so to get their hands on it.
