Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

As October rolls in, bringing with it autumn weather (in the Northern Hemisphere, anyway) and all things spooky, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is getting into the spirit of the season with a haunting easter egg hidden on the Nuketown map. It may not be a horror series, but that doesn’t mean that Call of Duty can’t have a bit of fun. After all, after revealing the game’s final Zombies map last week, Black Ops Cold War is clearly following a well-honored series tradition of mixing a little horror in with all the action.

Over the last year since its release, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has received numerous updates propelling players through seasons of content that tie in with the past title Call of Duty: Warzone and the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard. Season 6 should lead rather smoothly into the release of Vanguard, with the new multiplayer modes and the conclusion of Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies campaign narrative tying directly into what follows. In the past, each game’s Zombies mode had a unique narrative that stood on its own, but in a series first, Vanguard’s Zombies will continue Black Ops Cold War’s story.

It’s fitting, then, that Black Ops Cold War is doubling down on the spookiness this month with a bucket of Halloween candy spotted in one of the garages in Nuketown by a sharp-eyed Redditor named CaptainPRlCE. It’s a recent find, so presumably, it was added in observance of Halloween. Though it isn’t interactable at all, it’s a fun little visual touch to get players into the Halloween mode, if Zombies wasn’t quite enough. Zombies has been a Call of Duty staple for a while now, and it seems to have remained popular, proving that there’s plenty of room in the series for a few scares. One player even set a new world record in Zombies just a few months back. And among Black Ops Cold War’s many perks and upgrades, candy does stand out as unique.

This bucket of candy is just the start of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Halloween plans. On October 19th, both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will see the launch of an event called “The Haunting,” and though details are scarce on what exactly to expect from the event, if it’s anything like last year’s “The Haunting of Verdansk,” it’s likely to include reskins of maps to make them thematically appropriate. There’s no word yet on whether or not Black Ops Cold War will modify Nuketown to fit the theme, the inclusion of the candy buckets suggests that that’s definitely a possibility.

Black Ops Cold War has enjoyed much success this year, maintaining top-selling status several months in a row. Getting into the Halloween spirit may help it retain, and perhaps even grow its player base. As the month rolls on, Black Ops Cold War is sure to give players plenty of spooky stuff to dig into.
