Crash Bandicoot 4 It’s About Time Is Likely Coming To Xbox Series X

A new Xbox Series X ESRB listing has revealed that Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is likely coming to next-gen consoles. Activision has already confirmed that another of its fall releases will be making the leap at launch, that being Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. However, that game has a somewhat convoluted upgrade path from current consoles to next-gen, with two physical Xbox versions that look awfully similar when placed next to one another and a digital version that requires a small fee to bring over to new consoles. If that’s Activision’s plan going forward, players could see something similar for Crash 4.

However, it’s possible that players of Crash Bandicoot 4 may be fine with their current-gen version, especially on Xbox where that game will run perfectly fine on an Xbox Series X. The recently released and critically adored platformer is an eight-hour adventure focusing on the single-player experience. While there is certainly replay value in fully completing levels and trying out the more difficult challenges that unlock along the way, the game is not going to be one that players are going to be playing for a full year, which makes paying a fee to access better graphics much less appealing.

Whatever the case may be, GamesRadar spotted an ESRB listing for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time for Xbox Series X. This is an additional listing to the Xbox One release, meaning that it’s a true next-gen version and not just the backward-compatible edition already advertised on the box. The listing is solely for the Xbox side of things, meaning that PlayStation 5 owners could be left out in the cold. Having said that, it would be odd to only release the game on one next-gen console when both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One received the game on launch day.

In any case, even if players already get a playable version of the game on Xbox Series X on day one, a true next-gen version of Crash 4 could take full advantage of the new hardware. One would hope that Call of Duty is an exception in Activision’s eyes due to its popularity, and that Crash and other franchises under their watch can take advantage of Smart Delivery to automatically deliver an upgrade to players when they get a new box. However, since the Xbox Series X version of any Activision game outside of Black Ops: Cold War is unconfirmed at this time, an upgrade fee for their games could easily become the norm while cross-gen is still a thing.

Whether it comes with an additional price tag or not come November, the prospect of an even prettier edition of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is certainly an enticing one. The game’s N.Verted levels mix the promise of the insane visual filters that Nvidia has been packing into its graphics cards for ages with interesting gameplay twists, making for quite the feast for the eyes. No Crash Bandicoot game has managed to look as well as Naughty Dog’s original trilogy played, so lay on all the effects the Xbox can muster.
