Dark Souls 2: Where To Find Every Estus Flask Shard

The Estus flask is probably the most important item in Dark Souls 2, and you’ll want to find all of the shards to make the most of it!

The Dark Souls series is notorious for its high levels of difficulty. You’re going to die dozens of times as you try to make your way through the hellish landscapes and terrifying environments that make up the Dark Souls games.

For all of us mortals, order to complete Dark Souls 2, you’re going to need your trust Estus Flask. The Estus Flask is essentially the player’s healing device in the game and it is upgraded with Estus Shards. Each Estus Shard allows the player to use the flask one more time. Here is the location of every Estus Shard in Dark Souls 2.

12 Majula – Well

Majula is perhaps one of the only pleasant locations in all of Dark Souls 2. Strike that, it’s one of the only pleasant locations in the entire Dark Souls series, period.

The first Estus Shard, located at the Majula well, is perhaps the easiest one to find in the whole game — if you know what you’re looking for. Merely walk up to the well, smack the rock sitting there down into the well and the attached rope will raise up a corpse. Pick the shard off of the corpse.

11 Majula – Basement

There are more than one Estus Shards in Majula. That being said, this second one is much more difficult to find than the first and requires quite a few more steps.

First, travel to the Cardinal Tower bonfire in Forest of Fallen Giants. Go down the ladder and turn left. Go to the gnarled tree, leap to the roof, and face the opposite corner of where you came in. Then, head into the cave. Find Cale, speak to him a few times and he will give you a key. Using that key, you can now unlock the main house in Majula, wherein you will find the shard on a corpse in the basement.

10 Forest of Fallen Giants – Cardinal Tower

Full of trees, monsters and undead hollows, the Forest of Fallen Giants is not the easiest of environments to venture into. That being said, you’re going to have to brave its many terrors if you want to snag another Estus Shard.

First, you’ll need to defeat the big boss of the forest, The Last Giant. Then you’ll receive the Soldier Key. Climb up the stairs next to the Cardinal Tower Bonfire, go through the crowded room and use the key to unlock the chest containing the precious Estus Shard.

9 Lost Bastille – Courtyard Entrance

There are plenty of locations in Dark Souls 2 where you can easily get lost with no sense of direction. The Lost Bastille is one of those places. If you want to find the Estus Shard located among these many dark ruins, pay heed to these directions very carefully.

First, grab the Antiquated key. At the start of the level, shimmy over the ledge, continue left, drop onto the platform, and open the chest. Now that you have the key, go to the Servant’s Quarters bonfire. From there, jump across some rooftops, drop down and use the key to open the door to the left. Find the chest behind a massive column and there it is — another shard.

8 Shaded Woods – The Locked Door

Phantoms and ghosts lurk throughout the Shaded Woods. They aren’t the only things that are hard to see in those woods, however. The Estus Shards within are equally elusive.

First, find the petrified enemy near the. Shaded Ruins bonfire. Free and kill him for the Fang Key. Using the key, go up the ramp from the bonfire and take a right. Drop into the large pit covered with wooden planks and open a locked door. Inside, a corpse is holding the shard.

7 Shaded Woods – Petrified Woman

You’ll find yourself very close to this shard on multiple occasions, given that it is trapped behind a petrified woman. You’ll need to find a way to get past her for the next upgrade to your Estus Flask.

Using a Fragment Branch of Yore, free the woman, open the door, and enter the next room on the lower right. A chest inside this room contains the shard you are looking for.

6 N0-Man’s Wharf – House With A Broken Wall

For many, No-Man’s Wharf is one of the most difficult areas in the game. Especially if you try to master the wharf before you get to a high enough level.

First, you’ll need to enter from the opposite side of the wharf. After dropping down a few ledges, get to the lowest level, and turn left. Go inside the door you see there and a chest in the corner holds yet another shard for your collection.

5 Earthen Peak – Poison-Filled Hallway

Earthen Peak is defined by the poison the fills its many caves and valleys. If you’re willing to traverse the poison (and able to without dying) there are many great items to find that will help you on your quest, including an Estus Shard.

Upon entering the area, you’ll be in a chamber with poison water. Walk down the stairs, go right into the hall, and at the end is a corpse holding another shard.

4 Brightstone Cove Tseldora – Hidden Wall

Every now and then within the world of Dark Souls, you will run into various illusory walls. with a simple hit of your sword or a solving of a puzzle, they fade away to reveal a hidden secret or long lost treasure.

This wall is found just before the fog gate leading to the Prowling Magus boss fight. Just smack the wall to the left of the gate and all will be revealed.

3 Brightstone Cove Tseldora – Lower Brightstone Bonfire

The Estus Shard behind the hidden wall is not the only one you will find in Brightstone Cove Tseldora. You’ll find another near the Lower Brightstone Bonfire.

From the Chapel Threshold bonfire, go back towards the chapel. Then, roll off of the cliff to the building below. Once there, you need to drop to the grey base of a building that a spell-caster is on. Through an open doorway, you’ll find another corpse with yet another shard.

2 Drangleic Castle – Through The Gate

Without a doubt, Drangleic Castle is one of the most beautiful locations in the game. Given its massive size and endgame status, it’s also one of the most epic. As you get increasingly closer to finishing the game, it’s important that you find this second to last Estus Shard.

As you make your way through the castle, you’re going to enter a hall full of Alonne Knight archers, two other knights, and a Mastodon Knight. Head to the lower set of stairs and hit the switch. This will reveal a shortcut and a chest, inside of which is another Estus Shard.

1 Shrine of Amana – Down The Path

Hiding in the depths below Drangleic lies the Shrine of Amana. Upon entering you’ll be met with the eery sound of music coming from the Milfanito maidens known for carrying death and darkness within themselves. This is the location of the final Estus Shard.

Starting at the Crumbled Ruins bonfire, head right. Then you’ll see two sorceresses. Head down the trail trying your best not to fall off. Kill the sorceresses and one of them will drop the last Estus Shard.
