Electronic Arts closed out its EA Play Live digital event with a quick Dead Space reveal, confirming that the crew from EA Motive is hard at work on a remake for the beloved sci-fi horror franchise. Dead Space-related rumors and leaks have circulated regularly for the last several weeks.

These claims pointed to Star Wars: Squadrons developer EA Motive as the team behind the brand-new Dead Space project. However, rumors vacillated between whether the game in question would take the form of a fresh sequel, a full-on reimagining, or a remaster/remake of some kind. Fans need not wonder any longer, though, thanks to a teaser trailer that emerged at the tail end of EA Play Live, a teaser that EA quickly followed up with a bit more insight.

The trailer in question only lasts a few short seconds, yet it certainly pleased many a viewer. Dead Space’s familiar sights and sounds pervade much of the brief teaser, fully immersing fans in the horror before revealing a sneak peek at the back of Isaac Clarke’s iconic suit. A press release on Electronic Arts’ official website offered additional information, confirming that EA Motive does indeed have a Dead Space remake in the works. Players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S can expect to experience an “improved story,” complete with enhanced audio, visuals, and controls – all made possible by Frostbite Engine. Specific release date details presently remain under wraps.

Since Dead Space is being “completely rebuilt from the ground up,” EA Motive’s efforts in modernizing the gameplay should especially shine through. What said modernization may entail remains a bit of a mystery, however. For instance, one rumor suggested the studio would follow in the footsteps of Resident Evil 2 Remake by possibly adding features that didn’t enter the mix until later in the series.

Regardless of what EA Motive brings to the table, one thing seems certain – Dead Space has received a new lease on life. As such, it’ll be exciting to see if the horror property’s two sequels will similarly get the remake treatment. The widely disliked Dead Space 3 could specifically use a fresh coat of paint, perhaps one that reemphasizes the franchise’s focus on survival horror.
