Deadpool 2 Star Zazie Beetz Would Love To Play Domino Again

While information about Deadpool 3’s development and casting remains elusive, fans can rest assured that Zazie Beetz would be on board to play Domino. Beetz first took on the character in Deadpool 2, and Domino is a member of the mutant X-Force Wade Wilson assembles to protect a young orphan mutant. Domino’s power is that she’s “lucky,” a quality that Wade initially doubts the super-powered nature of. However, it soon becomes clear that her uncanny luck extends to high-stakes, life-threatening situations.

Ryan Reynolds confirmed back in 2019 that Deadpool 3 was on the way from Marvel Studios, but few details about the film’s production or plot have been made available. The lack of spoilers is partly due to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which brought the Deadpool series under Disney’s umbrella. Whereas the first two movies were produced by Fox and Marvel Entertainment, the third is being developed by Marvel Studios, which now operates separately from Marvel Entertainment under Kevin Feige. Unlike the first two films, Deadpool 3 will be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is known for keeping the details of its movies tightly under wraps until promotion.

Although the script is not yet finished, co-writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin (Bob’s Burgers, The Great North) have the go-ahead from Beetz to bring back her character, according to Comicbook.com. In their interview, Beetz is enthusiastic about the possibility of reprising her character. Apparently, Beetz enjoyed playing Domino so much that she’d happily sign on for a never-ending franchise, plus spinoffs:

“I would love to revisit Domino. I would love to do a Deadpool 3, 4, 5, 7, 19. I’ve also wanted to be like, ‘Maybe I could just do my own origin story.’ I feel honored to have been able to depict her on screen and to have played with her, as her. I love her and so I would be more than happy to revisit her on camera. And I think I will. If Disney doesn’t make it happen, I’ll make it happen.”

Producers would do well to note Beetz’ interest in doing more with Domino, considering the potential possibilities that might arise from bringing Domino into the MCU. Whether or not she returns in Deadpool 3, Reynolds has also spoken about his plans for another film focused on the members of the X-Force, which would hopefully give Domino a more meaty storyline to work with. Marvel has had plenty of success following supporting characters in various spinoffs, and its spectrum of media offers multiple avenues for exploring a potential Domino-focused MCU spinoff or origin story.

While Beetz’ idea to flesh out Domino’s story on her own is an exciting one in theory, it’s realistically unlikely that she’d have the option to do so legally unless working with Disney. Perhaps, if the character doesn’t return in Deadpool 3 and an X-Force movie doesn’t get made, Beetz can pitch the origin story/spinoff to Marvel. X-Force was put on hold and ultimately set aside after the Disney-Fox merger, but it has been rumored that the proposed film may be in talks for an MCU update. Reynolds previously said that an X-Force movie could be the basis for “launching something bigger,” and the X-Force certainly has the material for a dynamic Marvel series. Whatever happens, things always tend to work out for Domino.
