Destiny 2 Empyrean Foundation Event Guide

Destiny 2, Bungie’s sci-fi looter-shooter, is currently in its ninth content Season. The Season of Dawn revolves around Mercury and time-travel, with players helping Osiris to prevent the Red Legion from changing the past. The Season also features a late-game progression system based on upgrading Obelisks scattered across Destiny 2’s solar system.

These Obelisks will soon have a new purpose with the start of the Empyrean Foundation event on February 4th. Although the event has been on the calendar for two months now, no-one knew what it involved until now. It’s recently been revealed that the event will focus around a community effort to rebuild a “Beacon” alongside Saint-14, though its final purpose is still unknown.

How to Participate

Before a player can participate in the event they must first have unlocked the Tower Obelisk. This will require completing the Cornerstone quest, so players who haven’t participated in the Season yet will need to hurry to get that done if they want to take part in Empyrean Foundation.

Once the event starts, players will be able to turn in Polarized Fractaline, the season’s resource, at the Obelisk. Doing so will increase the community total, which will be tracked on a hologram above the Obelisk. There will be seven stages that the community total can reach, though we don’t yet know what they’ll unlock. It’s a safe bet that the community will reach these goals, given how quickly they cracked the Corridors of Time quest.

Personal Rewards

It takes 100 Polarized Fractaline to count as a player’s contribution to the Obelisk, and doing so gives a flat 25% bonus for all Timelost Weapon Bounties currently in their inventory. Any player who has donated at least 5000 Polarized Fractaline by the end of the event will also receive a Triumph and an Emblem.

To help players achieve this goal, their Tower Obelisk will generate Polarized Fractaline equal to its Resonance Power each week throughout the event. To boost the Resonance of their Tower Obelisk, and therefore their weekly Fractaline, players will need to upgrade the other Obelisks scattered throughout the solar system. Interestingly, data-mining from the community suggests that the “Beacon” that is being rebuilt is actually the Lighthouse from Trials of Osiris. It’s expected to return in the next season, the Season of the Worthy, which lines up with Bungie’s plans.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
