While not entirely unexpected, Bungie dropped a bit of news for current Destiny players this past week, as the developer all but confirmed that the entire studio has moved on to Destiny 2. For Destiny players, this means that this current iteration of the game is how it’s going to be until the game’s servers are ultimately shut down sometime in the distant future. Players waiting for additional sandbox updates, subclass and weapon tweaks, bug fixes, or new content are going to be left wanting, as the studio deals with the Destiny 2 crunch before that game’s release in September.
In other news, Bungie also confirmed that the team would have a big presence at E3 next week, which many fans expected to see. The team isn’t bringing any new content with them however, as the Homecoming story mission, the Inverted Spire strike, and new Countdown PvP mode will be on hand exactly as they were in May. Since it’s E3 however, Bungie is bringing one new thing with them, promising that the new Arcstrider Hunter subclass will be active for the demos.
Before E3 kicks off officially int he next few days, players have a wealth of content, bounties, and quests to mop up inside of the current world of Destiny. For the complete list of what’s new in Destiny including where to find all of this new content, here’s the complete list of everything you need to know for the week of June 6, 2017.
Featured Raid
It is the return of the king this week in Destiny, as Oryx and his Taken army have once again taken over as the Featured Raid for the next seven days. Of course, this is the only time to earn King’s Fall related exclusive 390 raid gear and weapons until the game shifts focus to Wrath of the Machine next week.
Unlike the other raids, King’s Fall features three challenges for players to overcome, with the added bonus of extra loot. Here’s what to do to satisfy all three challenges this week:
- Warpriest Challenge – Beat the Warpriest by having a different aura holder each time.
- Oryx Challenge – Kill Oryx by exploding 16 Corrupted Light Bombs at once.
- Golgoroth Challenge – All six members of the fireteam must grab Golgoroth’s gaze in each round.
Weekly Vanguard Nightfall
This week in the Nightfall, players are heading to the Cosmodrome to take on Sepiks Perfected in the Rise of Iron remastered version of the very first strike, the Devils Lair. As the story goes, the Devil Splicers have used SIVA to bring the fallen servitor back to life and it’s up to players to take it down once and for all.
Considering it’s the first strike players get access to, the mission itself should be very familiar as it follows the same path. This remixed version does feature a few changes however, as the level itself has a more winter feel to it as well as being infested by Devil Splicers. The hacking room has changed the enemy spawn locations and also now only requires two firewalls to be removed, rather than three. The spider tank that once roamed the large open area is also no more, replaced by a large skirmish between the Hive and Splicer factions.
New mechanics have also been added the the Sepiks Perfected boss fight, to help make it less of a bullet sponge while offering a bit more variety to players. At specific intervals, Sepiks teleports away as waves of enemies enter the arena. When it returns, it features a new elemental shield, forcing players to take the Scorch Cannons from Splicer Captains to use it against the boss.
For more details on the strike and beating the final boss, make sure to check out our guide.
The active modifiers this week are:
- Epic adds heavily shielded enemies that are more aggressive and appear in greater numbers.
- Arc Burn increases all arc based damage from any source.
- Ironclad gives more enemies shields.
- Catapult greatly increases grenade recharge rate.
- Exposure gives additional shields to guardians, but it no longer recharges after taking damage.
SIVA Crisis Heroic Strike Playlist
For players who want a consistent source of entertainment and loot, there’s likely nothing better than the SIVA Crisis Heroic Strike. With Void Burn back in the spotlight, players should bring the Defender, Voidwalker, or Nightstalker subclasses with them for a slightly easier time. Keep in mind that finishing just one strike in this playlist earns a Treasure of Ages loot box and 30 Legendary Marks. The real prize for many however is a shot at finding rare Skeleton Keys, which unlock exclusive strike gear at the very end of the mission.
The active modifiers are largely the same this week, with a slight change to the burn modifier. Here’s the complete list:
- Heroic buffs enemies, making them more aggressive and in greater numbers than normal.
- Brawler increases Guardian melee damage.
- Berserk prevents enemies from flinching even after taking massive damage.
- Void Burn increases all void based damage from any source.
Weekly Story Playlist
Since it was added with the Age of Triumph update, the Weekly Story Playlist offers players something a little different from the normal content. Taking regular story missions, this playlist adds a twist to them by adding weekly modifiers based around a new theme each and every week. In addition, for finishing just one mission each week, players earn a guaranteed Treasure of Ages reward box as well as legendary marks.
The theme in the playlist this week is Earth and Moon. Players should expect to see missions only from those two locations, though they can range from the initial vanilla missions to all of the ones that came after through the many expansions.
In addition, here are the active modifiers waiting for players this week:
- Heroic buffs enemies, making them more aggressive and in greater numbers than normal.
- Match Game makes enemies shields resistant to all unmatched elemental damage.
- Catapult greatly increases grenade recharge rate.
Weekly Crucible Playlist
Lady Efrideet and her Iron Banner make a return later today for her monthly visit to the Plaguelands, but before she brings her variation on Supremacy, Combined Arms is the featured mode for the time being. Players will have until 10 AM Pacific Time to get in their vehicle enabled matches in before it’s replaced for the week.
As expected, the weekly rotation of Crucible modes has once again swapped places, giving players access to five new modes for the next seven days. The modes this week are:
- Control
- Supremacy
- Elimination
- Salvage
- Rumble
Iron Temple and Tower Bounties
Starting at the Iron Temple, Tyra Karn has three new Iron Lord Artifacts on offer this week. To earn one, players simple need to start her weekly quest and perform good deeds around the Plaguelands. This includes everything from doing patrols, killing splicers, and taking part in public events either in Archon’s Forge or as part of those random timed events that can pop up. This week, the Cryptarch is offering:
- Memory of Felwinter removes the players super ability but instead grants an extra grenade and melee ability. Not only that, this artifact gives a small boost to all stats and orb pick ups grant melee and grenade energy.
- Memory of Skorri is a great fireteam artifact as it helps speed up the super regeneration rate for nearby teammates once the players super is full.
- Memory of Perun highlights enemies who are low on health and other Guardians who have a full super meter.
Once done with her, find Shiro-4, who has his weekly patrol quest ready to go along with four new Iron Bounties as well. For players still looking to start the Thorn exotic quest line, make sure to turn in all four for a shot at it. It’s an Archon’s Forge heavy week Guardians:
- Crushing Blows focuses on the Iron Hammer and other power weapons. Essentially, kill 100 enemies with either the hammer or another dropped weapon.
- Archon’s Forge: Shanks requires players to complete four Shank encounters inside of Archon’s Forge.
- Archon’s Forge: Captains requires players to complete four Captain encounters inside of Archon’s Forge.
- Archon’s Forge: Servitors requires players to complete four Servitor encounters inside of Archon’s Forge.
The Tower
Heading over to the Tower now, players should first stop by the Crucible handler, Lord Shaxx. The Titan has two new Crucible related bounties this week, focusing on Control and Supremecy. Here’s how to complete both:
- Taking Control requires players to finish seven Control matches, get 30 advantage kills (when one’s team has more control points), capture 15 points, and capture point B first in a match once.
- A Hunt for Glory needs players to finish 7 matches, earn 50 kills, capture 30 kill credits, and deny another 20 credits.
Before leaving, make sure to head further down the hallway to see Commander Zavala. The Awoken Titan is in charge of the Strike Elite content and as expected has three more strike elite bounties for players to finish up. As usual, Sunrise and Strike Elite are available once more, while also being joined by Clean Up.
Here’s what players need to do to finish each one:
- Sunrise – Earn a Gold Tier Medal before time expires in the Nightfall Strike.
- Clean Up – As a fireteam, kill 150 enemies during a Strike to earn the Brutal Efficiency medal. Do this three times to complete the bounty.
- Strike Elite – Earn 9 total medals for finishing off Strike missions through a combination of Gold Tier, Silver Tier, or Bronze Tier Medals.
As an alternative to the Nightfall, these weekly Strike and Crucible bounties are alternative ways to earn Nightfall tier rewards and loot that will help get closer to that maximum light level of 400. The Icebreaker exotic quest also has a small chance to be started by turning in the Sunrise bounty each week.
Challenge of the Elders
Last but certainly not least this week is the Challenge of Elders. Head to The Reef to speak to Variks to obtain the Elder’s Sigil, which is needed to get started in the arena. With a fireteam of three ready to go, players will square off against three boss encounters for a chance to earn House of Wolves specific gear and other high powered loot.
Unfortunately, it’s going to be a tough week for points as two of the modifiers effectively cancel each other out. The trio of modifiers this week are:
- Airborne increases player damage while in the air.
- Trickle slows the regeneration of all player abilities and supers.
- All Super Kills award bonus points.
That will do it for another week of content. Enjoy guardians!
Destiny is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
