Did Jason Statham Exit ‘Daredevil’ Season 2 Talks With Marvel?

After a wildly successful debut on Netflix in April, Marvel TV is gearing up for its second series (AKA Jessica Jones) for release this fall while also preparing to begin production on a followup to its first show, Daredevil. As such, casting and auditions are underway and leaked videos already revealed that Marvel is looking to cast Daredevil ally and love interest, Elektra.

Among other villains rumored to appear in Daredevil season 2, the most notable was the subject of headlines yesterday when a report claimed Marvel TV was in talks with Jason Statham to potentially have play the character known as Bullseye. Those talks have come to a sad end. Or did they?

The story begins with LR who have it on good authority from trusted sources (and “spies’ who saw Statham) that the British action star met with Marvel to discuss him potentially playing the villainous marksman known as Bullseye in the next season of Daredevil. After Statham expressed interest in playing Matt Murdock for a Daredevil reboot many years ago, it seemed a perfect match, especially for the practical, action-heavy series. Just look at what Statham had to say about Marvel movies:

This evening however, even after Marvel TV denied any such talks, Bloody Disgusting followed up by reporting that Statham was indeed in talks (“heavy negotiations” they worded it as) but potentially as a result of the leaked report, the talks had fallen apart. Was the (mostly positive) buzz from LR’s scoop really something that ruined the negotiations and could it have affected the monetary value of any such contract?

I went to the man with the initial scoop, Kellvin Chavez, during his Periscope sessions moments ago and asked. He said his sources weren’t too happy about him releasing the Statham info yesterday but said there’s still a chance a deal can be made. It’s not dead.

Daredevil is currently available on Netflix. AKA Jessica Jones premieres this fall, followed by Luke Cage and Daredevil season 2 in 2016.
