Dont Hug Me Im Scared Updates Is The TV Show Still Coming

Is the planned Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared TV series still in the works? For a lot of people, children’s shows like Sesame Street are among the very first shows they watched. In addition to its fun characters and colorful puppets – created in part by the legendary Jim Henson – they imparted useful lessons to young kids about spelling, mathematics and morality. In terms of horror, muppet Count von Count – a subtle parody of Bela Legosi’s Dracula – is about as creepy as the show ever got though.

A very different kind of muppet series debuted online in 2011 dubbed Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, AKA DHMIS. Created by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling, this has all the trappings of a fun children’s educational show with puppets, with typical episodes focusing on themes like creativity. The show revolves around Red Guy, Duck Guy and Yellow Guy being taught lessons by various talking objects, such as a talking clock that teaches them the concept of time, but episodes always take a David Lynch-inspired turn into surrealism and horror. Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared has rightfully earned a cult following for its great puppet work, catchy – if disturbing – music numbers, and unsettling tone.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared proved so popular it even had a crossover (of sorts) with The Amazing World Of Gumball during season 5 episode “The Puppets.” The most recent episode of DHMIS came in 2016, but is a long-rumored TV series ever happening?

A Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared’s TV Pilot Was Created In 2018

Around two years after the release of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared’s sixth episode, a trailer dubbed “Wakey Wakey” arrived teasing a potential show. It was later confirmed Sloan and Pelling had created a 20-minute pilot to pitch to networks, and in 2019 it had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

The synopsis from Sundance’s site read “In the small town community of Clayhill, roommates Red Guy, Yellow Guy and Duck live simple, uneventful lives – until Mayor Pigface disappears.”

A Channel 4 Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Series Was Confirmed In 2020

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared fans had a long wait following the announcement of the pilot, with its creators occasionally releasing info on social media confirming work was still underway, such as a Christmas 2019 message from Becky Sloan’s Instagram.

In July 2020 it was finally confirmed a Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared series was going ahead at Channel 4. While an air date or episode number has yet to be confirmed, fans can rest assured a series is finally on the way.
