If the Disney princes were Dungeons & Dragons characters, what would their moral alignments be?

With Dungeons and Dragons alignment becoming the next Hogwarts House trend, fans of anything can settle the constant debates about whether a character is good or evil and look at their actions as lawful or chaotic. The Disney Princes are a varied group that stretches the whole alignment chart.

There are ten official Disney Princes, so fans can look at their role and actions in their first movies. This means that television series, sequels, and live-action remakes are not worth examining. Though some Princes have extremely small roles in their respective films, their characters are typically well defined, especially in the more recent titles.

10 Prince Florian (True Neutral)

Often referred to as just The Prince, as his name, Florian, wasn’t released until the mid-1990s, he appears briefly as the love interest of Snow White in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He doesn’t appear often in the film due to the difficulty in animating him.

Prince Florian fits the true neutral alignment due to the fact that he does not sway good or evil. His motives seem very neutral, from the little fans see.

9 Prince Charming (Lawful Good)

The prince of Cinderella fame, Prince Charming returns home where his father throws him a party to get him to find a girlfriend. He attempts to go with the flow of the party, but upon discovering all the women are uninteresting, he ends up falling for Cinderella.

Charming fits the lawful good alignment based on his role as a prince in the movie. He goes through the paces, not shirking away from his responsibilities, nor does he fully question the authority around him.

8 Phillip (Chaotic Good)

Destined to one day marry Aurora, by fate or betrothal, Prince Phillip is the first of the rebellious princes. He falls in love with a girl singing in the woods and tells the king that he must accept it. He also faces down a dragon with just a sword and shield for the woman he loves.

The chaos around Phillip is palpable, from his initial disregard for practices such as arranged marriage to his combat with the dragon. He is not one for the rules placed on him when happiness could be achieved.

7 Eric (Neutral Good)

Sailing the seas more often than he sits in his throne, Prince Eric wins the heart of Ariel by almost drowning. He is determined to find the singing voice he woke up to on the beach, but also has feelings for the mute human-Ariel. After being fooled by Ursula, he saves the day by stabbing her with the bow of a ship.

Eric falls into neutral good because he is the one that makes the rules and is never shown to be going against what is allowed.

6 Adam/Beast (Chaotic Neutral)

Cursed to transform into a beast as a youth because he didn’t let a strange woman into his home, Adam becomes a hulking figure with a temper problem. He kidnaps Maurice for breaking into his home but trades him for his daughter Belle, who Adam eventually falls in love with.

Chaotic neutral characters are generally all about being free. Adam doesn’t care about the good or evil sides of life. He cares only about the curse and his desire to lift it.

5 Aladdin (Chaotic Neutral)

“Gotta steal to eat, gotta eat to live,” is the motto of Aladdin, a street rat who ends up a prince several times over by the end of the movie Aladdin. Thanks to the help of a Genie, he is able to court Princess Jasmine and take down the royal vizier who has been controlling the Sultan with sorcery.

Much like Beast, Aladdin fits chaotic neutral based on his need for freedom. His freedom is from the bounds of laws and hunger. Even his love for Jasmine is a way to become free.

4 John Smith (Lawful Neutral)

Very loosely based on the real-life story of Pocahontas, John Smith is the love interest of the titular princess. A valued explorer and communicator, he is tasked with settling any issues with the Native Americans, which doesn’t go over quite as planned.

John Smith, in the movie, is a man following orders and figuring out his own biases with the help of Pocahontas. He maintains an air of professionalism, though he does break some of the standards he is held to throughout.

3 Li Shang (Lawful Good)

Leader of the ragtag group of soldiers that includes Mulan disguised as Ping, Li Shang is a good soldier with a drive instilled in him by his father, another great leader. While he is unable to see the good in his group at first, he keeps training with the hope that they become better, which they do.

Li Shang is a model picture of a lawful good character. He follows rules to the letter, and when he doesn’t, he shows a great deal of regret and inner conflict over his decision.

2 Naveen (Chaotic Neutral)

The eldest prince of the kingdom of Maldonia, Prince Naveen is disinherited by his family and has to figure out a way to continue his lazy lifestyle. After being turned into a frog and turning Tiana into one as well, he gets a lesson in humility and hard work as the two figure out a way back to being humans.

Naveen is a lazy partier who cares only for himself for most of the movie. His involvement starts with his need to be free by being lazy and marrying Charlotte for her money. He is all about him.

1 Flynn Rider (Neutral Evil)

It is rare to find a heroic character called evil, but since this is based solely on his actions in Tangled, he falls into the alignment. Also known as Eugene, he is a common thief who regularly betrays anyone he comes across and initially uses Rapunzel as a means to an end.

Neutral evil characters turn on their cohorts and act selfishly, which is why this alignment works for Flynn Rider. He may not be a villain, but his actions in the movie make him the most technically evil of the princes.
