Dwayne Johnson Laughs Off Vin Diesels Fast & Furious Feud Comments

Dwayne Johnson reacts to Vin Diesel’s recent comments about their Fast & Furious feud, revealing he laughed when he first heard them. Diesel has been the face of the Fast & Furious franchise before it even became a franchise, while Johnson joined up in Fast Five. Onscreen, their characters Dominic Toretto and Luke Hobbs didn’t get off to the best start as Hobbs actively worked to take down Dom and his family. Since then, though, Hobbs has become a key part of the Fast & Furious franchise and even led his own spin-off with Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.

Behind the scenes, however, is another story. Johnson and Diesel famously didn’t get along while filming certain Fast & Furious movies, with Johnson at one point seemingly calling Diesel a “candy ass” on social media. When Johnson sat out the franchise’s most recent installment, F9, many wondered if his beef with Diesel contributed to it. However, the dust appeared to settle in the years following the social media post. Recently, Diesel talked about the tough love he gave to Johnson, explaining, “Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”

Naturally, one has to wonder how Johnson feels about those comments. It turns out that his reaction is priceless. While speaking to THR as part of a cover story on his new Disney movie Jungle Cruise, Johnson recounted how he reacted to Diesel’s assertion that he coached him through his Fast & Furious performance with tough love. It involved a lot of laughter, though Johnson made sure to lend his support to everyone involved in the franchise:

“I laughed and I laughed hard. I think everyone had a laugh at that. And I’ll leave it at that. And that I’ve wished them well. I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me.”

Johnson’s Jungle Cruise co-star Emily Blunt threw in a sly comment of her own, adding, “Just thank God he was there. Thank God. He carried you through that.” Johnson merely quipped, “Felliniesque.” It sounds like Johnson doesn’t quite agree with what Diesel had to say about their feud, but he’s gracious enough to avoid blowing it up into something more. Much has been said about the issues between Johnson and Diesel, and from an outsider’s perspective, it looks like the two will never be the best of friends.

Curiously, Johnson also hinted he won’t have a hand in the final two Fast & Furious movies. As they are expected to bring the franchise to a close, many anticipated Hobbs returning to the main action. Even director Justin Lin indicated he hadn’t forgotten about Hobbs when planning the final movies. This could very well change in the future, but it currently sounds like Johnson is sitting out Fast & Furious 10 and 11. He still has the Hobbs & Shaw sequel in the works, but when it comes to working with Diesel again, it doesn’t look very likely. Perhaps that is for the best.
