Easiest Pokémon Characters To Cosplay As

The Pokémon franchise has lots of incredibly popular creatures that fans love, and some take their love to the next level by cosplaying as their favorites. It’s not easy to dress like all of the Pokémon, considering that many of them are in the shape of animals, inanimate objects, and some Pokémon are even gargantuan beings from different dimensions, but there are some Pokémon cosplays that are easier to pull off than others.

The strange shape of Pokémon has done little to deter fans from dressing like them. There is the Gijinka style, where the aesthetics of the Pokémon are recreated as human clothing. There are also plenty of examples of people going for a low-effort route, where combining a Pikachu mask with a yellow outfit is enough to function as a costume. There is also the classic mascot costume route, where the entire body is covered in a giant outfit. The problem with these outfits is that they get extremely hot and it can be difficult to move the limbs and see out of the head, making them an unattractive prospect during summer events.

Pokémon fans have had to cosplay at home for the best part of the year, due to the pandemic shutting down conventions and costume parties all over the world. As lockdowns tentatively begin to end, the opportunity to dress like Pikachu in public may also begin to return. Not everyone has a money-massing Gigantamax Meowth to provide them with infinite cash, so some cosplays will have to be done on a budget. Luckily, there are some Pokémon cosplays that are easier to pull off than others.

Bug Catcher From Viridian Forest & Lass Make For Simple Pokémon Cosplay

The easiest Pokémon characters to cosplay are also some of the first trainers encountered in the series. Viridian Forest in Pokémon Red & Blue was home to Bug Catchers and Lasses, which challenge Red to some incredibly easy Pokémon battles. The Bug Catcher outfit consists of a white vest, blue shorts, a straw hat, and a net. The Lass outfit is a schoolgirl outfit. These can further be accessorized with Poké Balls, or maybe even a cardboard exclamation mark work on a headband as if they have just locked eyes with the player and are coming over for a battle.

Cosplaying Pokémon’s Giovanni Or Looker Would Be Easy

Easiest Pokémon Characters To Cosplay As

Giovanni is as easy to cosplay as the Turks from Final Fantasy VII, since he wears business suits in most of his appearances. The only major addition seen on Giovanni’s outfits is the Team Rocket symbol, and these are easy to add with a patch. Like the Turks, the Giovanni outfit is pretty generic, even with the Team Rocket symbol, so a Persian plushie would be the perfect accessory for the costume.

Anyone who has dressed like David Tennant’s incarnation of The Doctor from Doctor Who is lucky enough to already own a Looker costume, which is something that many fans have noticed over the years, and wondered if it was an intentional reference. The Looker costume is a simple enough ensemble to put together: a light brown overcoat, a brown suit, a white shirt, and a pink tie. Like Giovanni, it’s best to accessorize with a Croagunk plushie, and possibly cross its eyes out, considering the hints that it’s a Pokémon that actually died in the line of duty.

MissingNo Is A Perfect Deep Cut Pokémon Cosplay

Easiest Pokémon Characters To Cosplay As

The scrambled design of the unofficial MissingNo actually makes it really easy to cosplay, at least by Pokémon standards. All it takes is a bunch of cardboard boxes taped together like a Tetris block, and for the MissingNo pattern to be printed off and taped to the sides. The thin black lines can also be used to hide eye holes and a mouth slit. The cosplayer will also need to let out a garbled 8-bit cry that goes on for far too long, for extra realism (or at least bring a recording along on a smartphone). Poor MissingNo will never be a real Pokémon, as it’s a garbled mess of data from the notoriously glitchy Pokémon Red & Blue, but dedicated fans can use cosplay to bring it to life all the same.

Sudowoodo Is A Pokémon Form Easy To Recreate In Cosplay

Easiest Pokémon Characters To Cosplay As

Sudowoodo’s humanoid form and basic features make it ideal for Pokémon cosplay. A brown Zentai body suit with a couple of yellow ovals, a thin red line for a mouth, and two black dots for the eyes is all it takes. The hands can be accomplished with green balls, and the antenna can be constructed from cardboard and threaded through the suit, with a possible headband beneath the fabric to lock it into place. More importantly, the cosplayer would need to perfect the creepy dance Sudowoodo performs when it’s interacted with in Pokémon Gold & Silver.

Throh & Sawk Make Perfect Martial Arts Pokémon Cosplays

There are lots of human-type Pokémon in the Pokémon franchise, but their outfits can be tricky to pull off. The various attempts at Mt. Mime cosplay found on the Internet are proof enough of that. The easiest ones to pull off are Throh and Sawk, as they both wear a karate gi with a black belt, black kneepad patches, and a thread pattern on the arms. All it takes then is to put on red or blue body paint on the feet, hands, head, and chest, and draw on the face markings with black body paint. Alternatively, people who are buff can fray the pants of the gi, put on some black bracelets, and go as Bruno of the Elite Four.

Misty & Brock Are Classic (And Easy) Pokémon Cosplay Options

Ash Ketchum has worn a number of different outfits throughout the years and most of them are fairly simple. The problem is that he tends to wear caps with unique designs, the kind that was later distributed alongside special Pikachu in the video games. Ash’s original companions are a lot easier to dress as. Misty wears a short yellow shirt, a pair of denim shorts with red suspenders, and red & white sneakers. Brock wears an orange t-shirt, a green utility vest, brown pants, black & white sneakers, and a belt with two pouches on it. Ash did have other companions after he left Johto in the Pokémon anime, but it’s the original two that many fans still fondly remember.
