Elder Scrolls 6 How The Fighters Guild Could Return After Skyrim

There are multiple guilds to be found throughout the Elder Scrolls games, the majority of which make consistent appearances throughout the series. Two notable factions, however, were missing from the events of Skyrim – the Mages Guild and the Fighters Guild. Where there’s an in-universe explanation for the disappearances of the Mages Guild, it’s unclear why exactly the Fighters Guild was left out of the game. This mystery is exactly why the guild could possibly make a return in The Elder Scrolls 6.

In previous titles, the Mages Guild served as a location for players to learn or enhance magical skills. The Mages Guild also featured a questline similar to that of the Dark Brotherhood or Thieves Guild. Following the events of Oblivion, however, the Mages Guild was disbanded across most of Tamriel. The College of Winterhold takes its place within Skyrim, fulfilling similar functions and even providing another questline for players to progress through.

It could be argued that the Fighters Guild has a similar replacement in the form of the Companions. However, in The Elder Scrolls Online, both the Companions and the Fighters Guild are shown to co-exist within the region – meaning it’s unclear why the Fighters Guild would have left before the events of Skyrim or when exactly they departed. It seems unlikely that a guild dedicated to providing protection would leave during Skyrim’s Civil War, considering how prevalent the conflict was. The Elder Scrolls 6 might be able to provide a solid answer to the question.

How Elder Scrolls 6 Could Re-Introduce The Fighters Guild

Even if the Fighters Guild doesn’t make a complete return or even get a proper appearance in The Elder Scrolls 6, it seems likely that Bethesda will use the opportunity to explain their absence in Skyrim. It could be added in as a passing line of dialogue or a note found within one of The Elder Scrolls’ many readable books, or perhaps there could even be a quest related to the faction’s disappearance. It’s unknown where else in Tamriel the Fighters Guild is or isn’t operating at the current point in The Elder Scrolls’ timeline, meaning that their absence could be more widespread than it seems.

If the guild does make a full return within the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6, it could once again be used to introduce players to new questlines, characters, and abilities. Given how probable it is that the Companions were exclusive to Skyrim, it’s likely that a replacement will be needed to take their place in Elder Scrolls 6, and the Fighters Guild would be a perfect opportunity to do so. It would also allow the series to return to its roots in that regard, bringing back one of the more iconic factions from Elder Scrolls games like Morrowind and Oblivion. It’s unclear what could similarly replace the Mages Guild in this case, but more details will probably be revealed as more development is completed on the upcoming Elder Scrolls title.
