Avengers: Endgame director Anthony Russo hypes the release of 13 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies on Disney+ in IMAX’s expanded ratio. The Russos’ MCU directorial debut came in 2014 with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the fraternal duo then returned for the follow-up, Captain America: Civil War, a few years later. Marvel was so pleased with their work on the team-up film that they were tapped to direct Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame back to back. The two films now rank in the top five highest-grossing of all time.

The Russos’ first project after the massive success of Endgame was the Apple TV+ film led by Tom Holland, Cherry, though it largely flew under the radar and was panned by critics. Their next project, The Gray Man, is expected to perform much better due to its star-studded cast, massive budget, and eventual release on Netflix. The streamer put up $200 million to fund the spy thriller that will reunite the Russo brothers with Chris Evans and also star Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas. Whether or not the Russos ever return to the MCU, they will always be remembered for directing two of its most ambitious and successful entries.

Now, three of the Russo brothers’ MCU movies will be re-released on Disney+ in IMAX’s expanded 1:90:1 aspect ratio, allowing viewers to see 26% more of the original picture compared to the conventional widescreen format. The three films are Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, and will be available to stream on Disney+ starting this Friday, November 12. As a result, Russo shares, fans can now make their home-viewing experience a big step closer to the way these films were originally meant to be seen. Check out the video below:

Other than the Russo brothers’ three aforementioned films, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings will also be made available to stream on Disney+ in IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio, though these titles will vary by market. The move comes as part of the Disney+ Day event scheduled for Friday, which celebrates the addition of certain projects to the streamer and will see the House of Mouse share updates on some of their upcoming shows and movies. With the MCU now fully invested in Disney+ series, Marvel fans will be hoping for updates on highly anticipated projects at the end of this week.

Disney+ will be the first streaming service to bring this element of the IMAX experience to home-viewing, albeit without IMAX’s signature massive screens. Still, it will be interesting to see how the MCU’s action looks at home in an expanded aspect ratio. As Russo points out, many of the MCU’s blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame were made specifically for the IMAX experience, so it was only a matter of time before the version fans watch at home started to look more like the original.
