Every DC Movie Coming in 2018

Marvel may have more films out this year, but DC is still going to make a big impact with its movies in 2018.

Given all the shakeups in the DCEU film slate, the future of the live-action big screen adventures are currently unclear, but we at least have one film hitting before the year’s out. Things are even brighter on the animated side with a slew of different projects, from an adaptation of Death of Superman to a spiritual successor for Batman: Assault on Arkham led once again by the Suicide Squad. Here’s every film you need to be aware of.

Aquaman – December 21

Every DC Movie Coming in 2018

When Warner Bros and DC Entertainment first announced their slate of films that would be built around Justice League, solo ventures for both The Flash and Aquaman were meant to arrive this year. For The Flash, since retitled Flashpoint, the movie has lost multiple writers and directors as it’s struggled to head to the big screen. It’s still in DC’s film slate, but it currently doesn’t have a date or a director.

However, Aquaman is more or less still on course. Granted, its release date has been pushed back twice, but it’s now set to arrive in the one recent December without a Star Wars films. Aquaman finally got the chance to shine in Justice League and fans are hoping that the focus on a swashbuckling tale surrounding a fantastical city will be just the thing to continue the evolution of the King of Atlantis in the minds of the general public. And for WB and DC, the movie will be their only way for some time to test whether there’s life after the disappointment of Justice League.

DC’s Animated Movies

Every DC Movie Coming in 2018

Aquaman may be DC’s only live-action movie this year, but they’re ratcheting up their other output. After all, while Marvel reign supreme in theaters, DC has been consistently putting out better animated content for quite some time. 2018 will see a selection of diverse films arrive, though Batman will naturally still be at the forefront of many of them. For the Dark Knight, this year will see an adaptation of the Elseworlds title Gotham By Gaslight. Meanwhile, Batman Ninja might as well be an Elseworlds story as it will showcase the Caped Crusader and his pantheon through the lens of anime and feudal Japan. And this month will also bring Scooby Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which will pair the meddling kids with the Golden Age inspired Batman cartoon.

Outside of Batman, Task Force X will finally make their debut in the new animated DC canon with Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay (though the team was featured in Batman: Assault on Arkham, that existed in the Arkham continuity rather than the DC Universe Original Movies world). Death of Superman will also get an adaptation, with a follow-up to the story coming in 2019. Rounding things out in a more kid-friendly manner will be LEGO DC Superheroes: The Flash and Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, which will bring the popular kids series to cinemas.

DCEU Movies Filming In 2018

For those not as interested in the animated offerings from DC, 2018 will also be packed with information regarding next year’s DCEU output. Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2 are both filming in 2018, and rumor has it that Suicide Squad 2 will begin production later this year as well. Because of that, expect plenty of casting news, set photos and videos, and more from the films. There’s also a good chance Wonder Woman 2 will get a teaser before the year’s out, and Shazam!’s early 2019 release means the marketing for the film will be in full swing before we know it.
