Every Monster In Godzilla vs Kong’s Hollow Earth

APEX’s exploration into the Hollow Earth world introduced all sorts of new creatures into Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Here’s all of them.

Through the Hollow Earth, Godzilla vs. Kong introduced several new monsters into Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Godzilla: King of the Monsters took audiences on what was only a brief trip to the Titans’ underground lair, but it served as a focal point of Godzilla vs. Kong’s story.

The Hollow Earth portion of King of the Monsters showed off a forgotten, underwater city that once worshipped Godzilla and the Titans. At the time, the concept of a Hollow Earth was a theory pertaining to a secret tunnel system used by Titans to traverse the Earth. The MonsterVerse’s take on this idea originated in Kong: Skull Island and was expanded greatly by King of the Monsters, which confirmed that both humans and Titans lived there in peace once.

Godzilla vs. Kong went even further with the MonsterVerse lore by exploring this notion that the Hollow Earth is the actual “birthplace” of the Titans. Apparently, all the Titans – including Kong’s ancestors – lived in this place thousands of years ago. They’re all gone now, but there are plenty of other monsters who still live there and never made it to the surface.

Pterodactyl Monsters

The first creatures spotted once they descended down into the Hollow Earth world were flying beasts that had the physical features of pterodactyls. They also looked similar to the flying reptiles in the Skull Island sequence at the beginning of the movie. If they’re the same, that would provide more evidence for Dr. Andrews’ theory that Skull Island is what happens when Hollow Earth comes to the surface.

Warbats

APEX’s aerial vehicle was ambushed by two large monsters called Warbats, a name that was confirmed by Godzilla vs. Kong merchandise. These creatures have serpent-like bodies, red wings that enable flight, and an impressive set of fangs. Though both were defeated by Kong, they did succeed in posing a physical challenge to the Titan.

Crab Monsters

After beating the Warbats and running off, Kong incidentally woke up a group of crab-like monsters that blended in with the ground and slept underneath the rocks. Shortly after emerging, these crabs were eaten by another new monster.

Anguirus-Like Monster

What consumed the crabs was a four-legged, carnivorous reptile. The spikes on his back instantly drew comparisons to Toho’s Anguirus, but it’s unlikely that this monster is Godzilla’s iconic ally from Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla vs. Gigan. It doesn’t have nearly enough spikes, nor does its face have the Toho kaiju’s spiked nose. The MonsterVerse creature that resembles Anguirus the most is actually the skeleton from King of the Monsters’ underwater city scene. This particular creature, on the other hand, looks much more like Toho’s Baragon than he does Angurius. Baragon was a horned kaiju known for burrowing underground.

Hell Hawks

The monsters that clung to the ceiling of the caverns are called Hell Hawks. They have wings like bats and the beaks and talons of a bird of prey. The Hell Hawks, who are far too small to be called Titans, weren’t big enough to be a threat to Kong, but they were able to carry off and eat humans.
