While PS5 owners have been enjoying the system’s launch offerings thus far, many are looking forward to what’s coming in the console’s future. Alongside any next-gen console is the expectation of innovative gaming experiences coming along with it. Nearly every console generation brings some sort of advancement, and with the PS5 higher graphical fidelity comes faster loading speeds with its custom SSD. Many of the launch games for PS5 were also optimized to play on PS4/PS4 Pro as well, but 2021 will be when the next-gen exclusives release and truly show off the next generation of console gaming.

Next year boasts several huge video game releases, many of which were only recently announced. While the Xbox Series X has plenty of heavy hitters on the way, like The Medium or Halo Infinite, it’s Sony’s PS5 that has a ton of powerhouse titles releasing next year. Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Horizon, and Final Fantasy all have sequels coming as console or time-exclusives on PS5. That’s without even mentioning the many new third-party games like Outriders and Deathloop. The list of 2021 PS5 games will presumably grow next year, but here’s everything announced so far.

Every 2021 PS5 Game with a Release Date

Game releases for 2021 are divided into three distinct categories: titles with definitive release dates announced for 2021, tentative or vague release windows for 2021 that could potentially change, and to-be-announced games for 2021 that have a higher likelihood of delay. Starting with the first category, there’s actually a surprising amount of games that have definitive release dates for 2021. Many are either long-announced games like Deathloop, or remastered last-gen games like The Nioh Collection, with a select few being genuine next-gen exclusives. These are all the currently known games that are, at the moment, releasing definitively in 2021:

Some key highlights for early 2021 releases include the JRPG revamp in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the next big MMO/looter-shooter Outriders, Agent 47’s next adventure in Hitman 3, as well as Arkane’s highly anticipated new IP Deathloop. Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, Destruction Allstars, and Tennis World Tour are the only exceptions to the rule in this category because they have confirmed launch months, but the exact days haven’t been confirmed yet. Additionally, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart falls into the next category because it doesn’t have an exact timeframe announced, rather a “launch window” release timing that could mean anywhere between now and next March.

Other than Rift Apart, much of the announced titles for the PS5 in 2021 don’t have exact release dates. Many have opted for vague “2021” release windows, announcing a release month, release quarter, or otherwise specific release timing. Given the circumstances of 2020’s pandemic and the shifting in developer strategies around the world, more of these vague release windows are expected in the near future, and are subject to change. Here’s every PS5 game announced with a vague release window:

Then there are the unknowns, many of which either have a “2021” release window that could potentially be delayed or have no official release timing yet. Games like God of War Ragnarok and Battlefield 6, which are confirmed to exist and are planned to release in 2021 but haven’t shown anything, fall into this category. Additionally, some exceptions like Dying Light 2 are also included here due to a lack of information on their release timing, but were already planned for last-gen consoles. Here’s every PS5 game with a vague “2021” release window that’s more likely to change:

So far, that’s every single game that is planned to release in 2021 for the PS5. There are still numerous other games in the works for PS5, like Pragmata, Dragon Age 4, or Justice League: Kill the Justice League, but these have already been announced for 2022. Any other omissions from this list (The Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield, Gran Turismo 7, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2) haven’t been announced for 2021 at all, or do not have any confirmed platforms for release at this point. Next year is already looking extremely promising for games, especially those who already own or plan on getting a PS5 next year.

The PS5 is available now.
