Every Song In Bruised (& Where To Listen)

Here is every song featured in the film Bruised. Written by Michelle Rosenfarb, Bruised is a sports drama starring and directed by Academy Award winner Halle Berry in her feature debut. The film follows Berry’s character Jackie “Pretty Bull” Justice, an MMA champion turned alcoholic housecleaner. As Jackie struggles to get by with her daily routine, she learns that the son she gave up years ago has been placed under her custody. Her wasted potential in fighting complicates her tedious life further when she gets recruited into an all-female MMA league.

Prior to its streaming release on Netflix, Bruised premiered at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival. It was also screened at the American Film Institute Fest, before proceeding to a one-week theatrical run. Upon its release, Bruised was met with mixed reviews. Berry’s undoubted skills are once again displayed, with her performance and directorial style giving another layer to what could have been a typical sports drama. On the other hand, critics have pointed out the over-familiarity of the plot in Bruised, which falls into clichés at times.

Despite the reviews, Berry’s film still fills her with pride. In an interview with Variety, Halle Berry shares her excitement over the original songs incorporated in Bruised. The film’s soundtrack is predominantly performed by award-winning female talents, fitting the redemption narrative of Jackie, both as a mother and a fighter. Here are the songs included in Bruised, which scenes they are featured, and where audiences can listen to them.

“Attitude” by Saweetie – As Bruised begins by introducing female MMA fighters, “Attitude” plays in the background.

“Bet It” by Cardi B – Desi (Adan Canto) takes Jackie, played by X-Men’s Halle Berry, to an underground fight club. When they arrive, “Bet It” can be heard, and they witness a fighter named Werewolf pinning down her competition.

“Hallelujah (Arr. Cello & Strings)” by Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Didier Osindero, Alinka Rowe, Yong Gun Lee – As Desi and Jackie’s relationship continues to deteriorate, Desi threatens to hurt Manny (Danny Boyd, Jr.). Jackie comes into the rescue, and the instrumental “Hallelujah” intensifies the moment.

“Levitating” by Dua Lipa – Following yet another one of the couple’s altercations, Jackie and Manny move in temporarily with the former’s mother, Angel (Adriane Lenox). Dua Lipa’s song can be heard as Angel makes herself a “little party.”

“Tha F**k” by Latto – Jackie resumes her intensive training outside and in the gym, to the tune of “Tha F**k”.

“Just the Two of Us” by Van Hunt – “Just the Two of Us” plays as Jackie listens to Buddhakan’s (Sheila Atim) voicemail, informing her that her training session will be supervised by Immaculate, brought to life by the lead of the sci-fi Stowaway, Shamier Anderson.

“No Mercy Intro” by Young M.A. – Due to a panic attack, Jackie endangers Manny and is forced to leave her mother’s apartment. She then goes straight to the gym, with “No Mercy Intro” playing, as she trains and lets out her anger.
