Every Unanswered Question After Chilling Adventures of Sabrinas Finale

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina tied up some loose ends in season 4, but its finale left behind numerous unanswered questions about the Sweet Hereafter, the trinket man, and the state of Hell under new leadership. After Kiernan Shipka’s Sabrina Spellman and Sabrina Morningstar left the realm of the living for good, it brought up several discrepancies with the power of the coven and, in particular, the goddess Hecate. With Sabrina’s storyline coming to a close at Netflix, fans were left to wonder what actually happened to the characters and evils of season 4.

Following the summer announcement that Netflix cancelled Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the showrunners were placed in a situation where they had to remedy every loose end left from previous seasons. While season 4 answered what was in Father Faustus Blackwood’s (Richard Coyle) egg with the Eldritch Terrors, those that came up in their aftermath left major plot holes and glaring discrepancies between previously established magics. It appears as though the series will not return in the foreseeable future, but Sabrina’s storyline will continue in Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s comic book of the same name. Not only did he create Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but he also revived the Archiverse with his iteration of the classic characters in Riverdale. Until season 5 debuts in a written form, the unanswered questions that came from the season 4 finale will remain as such.

While Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has spent three seasons focusing on Sabrina’s inability to find her way in the mortal and infernal realms, season 4 showcased that her true destiny was to save the world from the Elder gods of Lovecraftian mythology. Throughout her time on Netflix, she has confronted her real father Lucifer Morningstar (Luke Cook), fallen in and out of love with Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch) and Nicholas Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood), and created a time paradox. Now that Sabrina Spellman and Sabrina Morningstar are buried in the family cemetery, it seems as though the world and the witch can rest knowing it will be safe for all eternity; except, this may not be true based on the unanswered questions left by season 4.

Who Is The Trinket Man?

Every Unanswered Question After Chilling Adventures of Sabrinas Finale

The trinket man first appeared in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 4, episode 4, “Chapter Thirty-Two: The Imp Of The Perverse” when he arrived at Father Blackwood’s church with his goods in tow. He carries some of the universe’s most notorious occult objects including Pandora’s box from Greek mythology, the Imp of the Perverse created by gothic horror writer Edgar Allan Poe, and the Stone of Omphalos. There are several theories for who the trinket man is that range from him being God or a character from H. P. Lovecraft’s stories named Nyarlethotep who carries artifacts with him that cause chaos. Since Metatron announced that the false god’s knowledge of the events would cause him to meddle in their affairs, it is possible the trinket man is God in some form. In the upcoming comic book, they will need to address who he truly is, as he will surely impact Sabrina’s ability to return. One of his trinkets could be the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis or an Egyptian god’s Ankh of resurrection.

Why Was The Telescope So Important?

Every Unanswered Question After Chilling Adventures of Sabrinas Finale

The telescope given to Sabrina in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 4, episode 3, “Chapter Thirty-Three: Deus Ex Machina” serves the purpose of allowing Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) to discover the extra cosmos. She was initially planning on using the fixed telescope to secure her position on student council, but she did not expect for it to expose their latest threat. Had Ambrose not fixed it, he wouldn’t have saved the Sabrinas from merging together under Metatron’s influence that could’ve ultimately destroyed one or both of them.

What Actually Happened To Puppet Salem/The Endless?

Every Unanswered Question After Chilling Adventures of Sabrinas Finale

After Sabrina Morningstar jumps through Sabrina Spellman’s mirror, she and puppet Salem, who is also the Endless, die almost instantly. It is a rather bizarre ending to two important characters. The Endless is Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s last Eldritch Terror before they face their final boss, the Void. The only reasoning that could possibly explain their deaths would have the be the fact that they seal Spellman’s mirror so that she could not visit Morningstar. When Morningstar jumped through the enchanted object and broke through her twin’s spell, it likely caused a great amount of trauma on her body as well as puppet Salem’s. It can also be theorized that the Endless died because the cosmos was the only thing keeping him stable and it disrupted his cycle of control.

Is Lucifer Truly Dead?

Every Unanswered Question After Chilling Adventures of Sabrinas Finale

In Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s series finale, Lilith (Michelle Gomez) stabs Lucifer with the Spear of Longinus, which has the power to kill immortals. As she drinks his celestial blood, he screams in anguish. It is alluded that he has perished as a result, but is her really dead? The short answer is yes, as the Spear of Longinus proved its power when it killed Lazarus in episode 6 and, according to biblical lore, killed the Nazarene who resurrected him. With Lucifer dead, this means that Hell’s throne is up for grabs, but whoever chooses to take his place – likely Lilith – may have to face the major consequences of bringing about the fall of the house of Morningstar.

What Was Lilith’s Boon From Mambo Marie?

Every Unanswered Question After Chilling Adventures of Sabrinas Finale

Mambo Marie, later revealed to be Baron Samedi, states that they will grant Lilith a boon, but not in the form of her son Adam. It is likely that they do not have the power to bring back a child killed by its own mother or that the baby’s soul has spent too much time away from its body. A boon can come in many forms, as it is defined as something that can be helpful to a specific individuals wants or desires. Lilith already has the Spear of Longinus that gives her the power to take down Lucifer and, in turn, the throne. She already has everything that she could’ve possibly wanted, except for one person in particular, Adam. It is evident that Lilith solely used her son Adam as leverage to stay alive after Lucifer threatened to kill her in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3, but season 2 made it evident that she fell in love with a man named Adam, who was killed by the dark lord. Her boon may be the man she lost to the one that betrayed her.

Who Is The New Ruler Of Hell?

Every Unanswered Question After Chilling Adventures of Sabrinas Finale

It is alluded that Lilith is the new ruler of hell after she kills Lucifer. After attempting to take the throne in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3, it was stripped from her once the dark lord returned and Sabrina challenged the villain Caliban (Sam Corlett) for the crown. The kings of Hell rejected her at first, which likely means that they won’t be took keen on her taking the throne for good. The comic book must explain what happened following the death of Lucifer in order to fully comprehend how and why Lilith was able to become Queen of Hell, if she did at all. If Lilith hasn’t taken the throne, it is plausible that another competition will commence among his closest followers.

Why Wasn’t Sabrina Brought Back?

Every Unanswered Question After Chilling Adventures of Sabrinas Finale

Since Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 1, it has been widely known that the Spellman’s have a patch of dirt in their cemetery called the Cain pit. According to Hilda (Lucy Davis) and Zelda Spellman (Miranda Otto), the soil was taken from Cain’s grave and soaked in the blood of his young brother Abel. It has the capability of bringing people back from the dead, as witnessed numerous times with Hilda and once with Agatha. Which brings about the question, why didn’t they put Sabrina Spellman or Sabrina Morningstar in the Cain pit? According to the series, an individual cannot be dead longer than thirteen-minutes. If they are, they cannot rise from the pit. Despite the fact that Sabrina Spellman died during season 4 in the Mountains of Madness, every witch seems to have the power of transmutation, meaning she could’ve been brought to the pit in a split second and resurrected. Nick and Ambrose also practiced necromancy in season 4. Obviously, they would’ve been able to bring her back using this form of magic. It is unclear why they chose to keep her dead, but it is likely due to the fact the banshee showed up, which marks the true death of a witch.

What Is The Sweet Hereafter?

Witches do not have an afterlife like mortals. They do not go to heaven and they do not go to Hell. Sabrina Morningstar expressed that there needed to be some serious changes to the realms in order to assist in more humane afterlives. Therefore, the Sweet Hereafter may be Sabrina’s recommendations put into effect by the new ruler of hell, but there’s one major discrepancy here. The Sweet Hereafter looks identical to the Void. It is an all white room with giant pictures set in golden frames. If half of the void slipped into Sabrina, then her soul could’ve been swallowed by it when they drained the terror from her body in episode 8. Nick does appear in a rather controversial fashion, as he alludes to taking his own life by swimming in the Sea of Sorrows to be with her. If they are end game and Sabrina does return for the comic book, it is likely that Nick isn’t actually dead at all. Ultimately, fans will have to wait for these big reveals that will inevitably be a part of the upcoming issues of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina that serve as season 5.
