Everything Included In KOF 14 Ultimate Edition

SNK is gearing up for release of The King of Fighters 15 by creating a package deal of the previous KOF title: The King of Fighters 14 Ultimate Edition. KOF 14 was released in 2016 as SNK’s return to the video game market. This marked the company’s transition out of its pachislot endeavors, emphasized by the renewed usage of its original slogan, “The Future Is Now.”

The King of Fighters 14 represented the first mainline King of Fighters title in six years, with King of Fighters 13 having launched in 2010. Following up from the finale of KOF 13, the new game began a brand-new story arc and introduced a host of new characters. Among these new characters was the protagonist of this upcoming arc, Shun’ei, who represents the new era of King of Fighters, moving forward.

The game’s release was met with generally positive reviews, and SNK went on to release two seasons of King of Fighters DLC characters. This brought the already-enormous roster of 50 characters to a staggering 58. To get players ready for the release of King of Fighters 15, SNK announced The King of Fighters 14 Ultimate Edition for PlayStation 4. With the amount of DLC content released for the title since launch, the complete package will be stacked for newcomers looking to prepare for the upcoming KOF game.

King Of Fighters 14 Ultimate Edition Includes All DLC Characters & More

The biggest inclusion is the aforementioned two seasons of DLC characters. Among the DLC roster are fan-favorites from the series’ history, such as Heidern, Blue Mary, Vanessa, and Whip, alongside a returning Oswald from the previous saga of games. Ryuji Yamazaki also returned through the DLC for the first time since 2003. Rock Howard made his first King of Fighters appearance since the Maximum Impact spin-off series, coming in from Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Rounding out the DLC characters is newcomer Najd, designed by Mashael Al-Barrak as part of a special character creation contest in promotion of the title.

To go along with the DLC characters, King of Fighters 14 Ultimate Edition also features the game’s ten cosmetic DLC packs focused on new attire for the fighters. This includes DLC costumes for Kyo and Athena that give them retro outfits from their previous appearances in the series. Also included is a costume for Geese that makes him the physical manifestation of his Nightmare variation, a version of Geese that’s appeared as a boss character in previous SNK titles. Several characters also have brand-new costumes made originally for the game.

The PS4’s Ultimate Edition also comes with ten special themes for the console, including one theme based on Kyo’s design in The King of Fighters 15. An edition of KOF 14 like the Ultimate Edition already exists on Steam, but these special themes are unique to the console version. As it is being touted as a rerelease for the console, as well, this version of the game should also see a reduced price, owing to the original title now being more than four years old. With The King of Fighters 15 ready to launch later this year, The King of Fighters 14 Ultimate Edition should serve as a great way for players to get into the franchise before the next release.
