Far Cry 6 What Happened to Chorizo the Dogs Legs

One of Far Cry 6’s new animal companions is a paraplegic dachshund named Chorizo, and it is a mystery as to how he ended up with a wheelchair. The newest addition into the Far Cry franchise will release in October, with players taking on the role of voiced protagonist Dani Rojas in an attempt to free the people of the Caribbean island of Yara from Antón Castillo and his violent regime. Castillo is played by Hollywood star Giancarlo Esposito, best known for his villainous turn in Breaking Bad, which lends Far Cry 6 a jolt of star power that should bring some weight to the story.

Along with the largest map in a Far Cry game and an innovative crafting system, Ubisoft has included animal companions in Far Cry 6 to assist players in the fight to defeat Castillo. Only two companions have been revealed so far, with Chorizo being one of the animals that players can bring along on missions. The other companion will be Guapo, a crocodile with a gold tooth and zip-up shirt that belongs to Juan Cortez, a mentor to the protagonist.

Animal companions are not new to the Far Cry series, with the Fangs for Hire system being implemented into Far Cry 5. This system has been brought into Far Cry 6 as the Amigos system, appropriately named to match the Caribbean setting of the game. Chorizo and Guapo are the only two companions that Ubisoft has shown to be part of the main game, although players that purchase Far Cry 6’s Vice Pack DLC will have access to a white panther named Champagne the day of release.

Chorizo’s Wheelchair and How He (Potentially) Got It

Chorizo’s introduction in the Far Cry 6 gameplay showcase sees the good dog roll into view with prosthetic wheels to support its small frame, ready to follow the player into battle. The wheelchair seems to be equipped with supplies that main character Dani can use in combat to defeat members of the fascist regime around the island. It is likely that Chorizo will be useful in the capacity of distraction, as it would be quite hard for anyone to resist the adorable wiener dog approaching them, good or bad.

One logical explanation as to how Chorizo lost the use of its legs would be in the throes of combat, helping its companions fight to win the revolution. Guerilla warfare in Far Cry 6 seems to be a ruthless endeavor, and no human (or cute animal) is safe from injury when the bullets start flying. It is possible – and, given the nature of Far Cry 6’s Yara, somewhat likely – that Chorizo sustained some type of injury in battle that rendered the pup without the use of its legs.

Another potential explanation is that Chorizo may have been born without the use of its legs at all, leading the animal to utilize the wheelchair for increased movement early on in life. It is not unheard of for some dogs to be born without one or both of their back legs, or with decreased muscle control, so there is a chance that Ubisoft created Chorizo with such a backstory in mind to bring awareness to such developmental differences among pets in the real world. Whatever the case, Chorizo is a memorable companion that players will likely be excited to have by their side in Far Cry 6 as they explore the island of Yara.
