Fast & Furious Everything You Didn’t Know That Happened To Brian Between The First & Second Movie

When it comes to the Fast & Furious franchise, there are a lot of strange gaps in time, which is one of the many things that makes no sense about the series. But one of the biggest questions surrounding the series is what happened between the first and second movie, as Dom is nowhere to be seen and Brian all of a sudden has a life in Miami.

Though the movies’ razor-thin storytelling is one of the series’ flaws, there is a short film that clears a few things up. Turbo Charged Prelude To 2 Fast 2 Furious, was a bonus feature on the DVD release of 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the six-minute movie explains everything that happens to Brian between the two movies and fills in a lot of the gaps.

8 Leaves His Police Badge Behind

After the events of the first movie, still wearing the same clothes as he was in the last scene of The Fast and the Furious, Brian packs his bag and makes a run for it.

The FBI agent leaves his police badge on the mirror in the bathroom, which funnily enough is the final parallel between the movie and Point Break, as Johnny Utah throws his badge into the ocean at the very end of the movie. There are a lot of similarities between The Fast and the Furious and Point Break, but this marks the last of them.

7 Becomes A Wanted Man

As Brian let Dom drive away with every chance of arresting him, one of those times the series was so bad it was good, Brian inadvertently becomes a wanted man himself.

A police commissioner hands out photos of Brian to his staff and his face is then seen on TV and in newspapers. Another group of officers even raid his now-abandoned home. It leaves Brian looking over his shoulder at every possible moment.

6 Street Races, Lots Of Street Races

With Brian being a wanted man, it’d make sense to keep a low profile, but he continues street racing, even though that’s the exact place where police would expect to find him.

Being a former FBI agent, Brian would surely know this, but the Fast & Furious series has never really been grounded in logic. Nevertheless, Brian has to earn money somehow, so he keeps street racing and he wins every race, but not without a couple of bust-ups with the other drivers.

5 Meets The Girl

Before meeting Monica, there was another girl in Brian’s life after Mia. There’s no dialogue in the short movie, so it’s impossible to know her name and IMDb lists her simply as “Girl,” but she becomes somewhat of an ex Machina for Brian, as she shows up at the perfect time.

After first meeting at a diner, in which Brian inconspicuously leaves as soon as two cops enter, it’s then revealed that they are both staying in the same motel. As the police show up in the middle of the night after finding his car, she helps him evade them.

4 Purchases The Nissan Skyline

As the girl drops him off at a used car lot, it doesn’t take Brian long to get his hands on a new car. The wanted man casually looks around the lot but isn’t satisfied. However, that’s only until he sees the Nissan Skyline hiding in the back.

It doesn’t look exactly like the Skyline seen in 2 Fast 2 Furious, and it looks almost banged up. At first reluctant to sell it, the owner of the lot is flabbergasted when Brian pulls out a wad of cash from his pocket.

3 Fixes Up The Skyline Himself

This is the coolest scene in the short movie, and it’s something fans haven’t actually seen in the films, as Brian fixes up the car completely by himself. With the extreme modifications being one of the few things that actually makes sense about the series, Brian gets underneath the car and starts tweaking and messing around with it.

But the best moment comes when he puts on a mask and paints the Skyline that iconic gloss grey that we see in the sequel. We never see the blue decals or the spoiler get attached, so it can only be presumed that was Tej’s handy work later down the line.

2 Almost Moves To New York

When on the highway, Brain has a big decision to make, as one road leads to Miami, and the other leads to New York. Obviously, with 2 Fast 2 Furious being set in Miami, fans know which road he chooses, but it makes audiences wonder what 2 Fast 2 Furious would have been like if it was based in New York.

Though 2 Fast 2 Furious might be one of the worst Fast & Furious movies, one of the best things about it is how Miami is almost like a character itself, so it’s exciting to think that the same could have been done for New York in an alternate timeline. However, the series did go on to be set in New York in Fate of the Furious

1 Lands In Miami

When Brian touches down in Miami, the mood immediately changes. As he was once a wanted man on the run, he’s now in his element.

Even though we don’t see the characters, we see Orange Julius and Slap Jack’s souped-up cars drive by on the other side of the road, and Brian’s face lights up. And it’ll only be a matter of time until he meets one of the most likable characters in the series and his partner in crime, Roman.
