Final Fantasy XIV How to Unlock The Copied Factory (Nier Automata Raid)

Final Fantasy XIV has been gaining a steady amount of updates through 2020. Some are limited time seasonal events, while others are content updates with new story developments. Much of patch update 5.3 focuses on improving old expansions, like the streamlined A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. Regardless if a player is just starting out, or all the way at endgame there is plenty to do in the world of Eorzea.

Starting in patch 5.1, players could take on the YoRHA Dark Apocalypse raid series, starting with The Copied Factory. With the release of 5.3, heroes can now enter the second phase, the Puppet’s Bunker. These raids house many cameos and Easter eggs for fans of Nier Gestalt/Replicant and Nier Automata. This even includes outfits that can be worn no matter which race or gender combination players have selected.

Final Fantasy XIV How to Unlock The Copied Factory (Nier Automata Raid)

Players must be level 80 and have completed the main story quest Shadowbringers, which requires finishing the dungeon Amaurot and trial The Dying Gasp. One will also need to finish a side quest chain introducing the main Dwarven NPCs Anogg and Konogg, starting with the level 70 quest Word About Komra from the Gossipy Dwarf within Kholusia X:12.9, Y:8.7. This will lead into more quests A Scandal in Korma and On the Threshold, from Gossipy Dwarf and Dig Site Chief, respectively. This will unlock the first Nier raid, The Copy Factory.

The Copy Factory Requirements

This mega 24-man, three-party raid requires a minimum item level of 435. A fresh level 80 that has just cleared Amaurot will only be item level 430 or less. There are a few options, including spending acquired Allagan Tomestones to acquire Deepshadow or Crystarium armor and weapons; complete the Eden’s normal raid series for Edengate and Edencall items; or farm storyline dungeons like The Grand Cosmos, Anamnesis Anyder, or The Hero’s Gauntlet. Those that have already cleared the Stormblood Ivalice raid series can gain a free item level 485 weapon by speaking to Keiten in Kogane Dori X: 12.3, Y: 12.2 and completed the quests starting with Hail to the Queen.

Coffers and Rewards

Regardless of how you gain access to The Copy Factory, players will need to assemble a full alliance of three parties. They will face off against the Serial-Jointed Command Model, Hobbes, Engels, and 9S-operated Walking Fortress. Each boss will drop chests containing item level 460 YoRHa Type-51 armor pieces for the head, body, hands, legs, and feet. While there were restrictions on rewards back in 5.1, they were lifted in patch 5.2 and no allows players to farm as much gear as they wish.

9S will also have extra items like his Triple Triad Card; Pod 054 and Pod 316 minions; Orchestrion scrolls for Alien Manifestation, Rays of Light, Song of the Ancients, The Sound of the End, and Weight of the World (Prelude mix). There will also be a single coffer containing a full set of No.2 Type B Attire, the outfit of 2B. This gear is gender-neutral, allowing male characters to dress exactly like the protagonist of Nier Automata. The armor lacks high defense or secondary combat stats, making it purely a fashion item.

Finishing the raid once will lead to two quest options that are mutually exclusive. Heads I Win agrees with Konogg’s cautious outlook about 2P, while Tails You Lose fully supports Anogg’s eagerness to help the gynoid. The choice will affect some of the Dwarves’ and 2P’s dialogue in the next upcoming quests. Either way, more quests in the chain will appear including Carnivals and Confrontations, We Can Rebuild Her, and Everything You Know is Wrong. These quests will reward additional YoRHa related items, and finally, unlock the next raid The Puppet’s Bunker.

Storming The Puppet’s Bunker in Final Fantasy XIV

To enter the raid, players will need to be item level 465, which may require farming more Allagan Tomestones or clearing previously mentioned raids or dungeons. Even a full set of YoRHa Type-51 armor won’t be enough. Consider finishing Eden’s Verse a few times before trying The Puppet’s Bunker. Once the equipment requirement is met, 3 tanks, 6 healers, and 15 DPS will be needed to enter the raid. Since it is new popular content, wait times should be fast – especially for a key role like healer.

Encounters and weekly rewards

The alliance will do battle with four major bosses: 813P-operated Aegis Unit; A-lpha, B-eta, and C-hi Superior Flight Units; 905P-operated Heavy Artillery Unit; and finally, The Compound. Each will drop three chests, one locked in for each party. The chests will have two pieces of item level 490 YoRHA Type-53 armor, divided among helms, body, hands, legs, and feet for tanks, healers, casters, ranged, strikers (monk/samurai), ninjas, and dragoons. If an item is claimed, the player cannot gain another reward until weekly reset every Tuesday 17:00 Japan time. Because of this restriction, it will take five weeks to outfit a single job, and 35 to collect everything. It is possible for no applicable item to spawn for a player, requiring one to replay The Puppet’s Bunker and draw lots against their party several if not dozens of times.

The Compound will also have a fourth treasure chest that main contain 2B and 2P minions, a 2P Triple Triad card, and Orchestrion rolls for the Nier songs End of the Unknown, Fortress of Lies, Grandma Destruction, and The Dark Colossus Destroys All (Torn from the Heavens mix). Betting on this doesn’t count against the aforementioned weekly limit, but players will need to compete with all 23 of their allies.

Upon finishing The Puppet’s Bunker the first time each week, players will also gain a Puppet’s Coin. This, along with an equal amount of Manufactured Coins from The Copy Factory, can be traded to Fathard in Eulmore for items to upgrade Crystarium gear into item level 500 Augmented Crystarium armor and weapons. This is currently the strongest equipment in the game and will remain so until update 5.4, when it will be replaced with even stronger Tomestone and Eden prizes.

The first time The Puppet’s Bunker is completed, Konogg will have a conclusion quest Crime and Punishment. This will check in on the Dwarf homestead, shed light on the YoRHa, and examine 9S. This also gives slight teases to the next Nier raid scheduled for patch 5.5, the final part of the Shadowbringers expansion.
