Friends Every Major Love Interest Ranked By Likability

A big part of Friends is the romance that many of the characters have, with plenty of failed relationships taking place throughout the series while the characters all learn to grow. While many of the romantic interests don’t become long-term characters, they all add plenty to the show during their stay.

But they aren’t all perfect people, and many of the characters actually have negative traits that didn’t make them very likable. That’s what helped to make the show so much fun, having varied characters with different personalities to ensure that the show felt realistic. But out of all the Friends love interests, which were the most likable?

10 Emily

Out of all the Friends love interests, Emily came across as the least likable, purely because of her behavior throughout the show. Like most of the romances on the show, the Brit started out kind, sweet, and attentive, but it quickly became clear she wanted to be very controlling of Ross.

The fact that she wanted to ban him from talking to Rachel and even move to England, despite his son being in America showed that she wasn’t that kind or willing to make any change. Her attitude towards Ross and his friends just made her incredibly unlikable throughout the show.

9 Janine

Another Friends character who hated her boyfriend’s friends was Janine. Her personality wasn’t able to match her perceived beauty as Janine was quite angry; she happily used to complain to Joey about everything that they did, especially with Chandler and Monica.

The fact that Janine hated two of the shows most important characters instantly just made her unlikable to audiences. She was over the top and argumentative, which is something that people didn’t enjoy seeing on the show.

8 Kathy

Kathy might have come across as someone who was kind and nice when she first appeared as Joey’s girlfriend, she quickly ended up becoming very unlikable. Kathy might have been intelligent and charming, being everything that someone should want, but she wasn’t trustworthy.

Kathy broke Joey’s heart and almost brought an end to Joey’s friendship with Chandler, which instantly made her hated by fans. She was happy to cheat on Joey with Chandler, and that made her very unlikable to most people.

7 Janice

The whole point of Janice is that she’s annoying. Everything about her is meant to be unlikable as she’s loud, over the top and very irritating. While she can be sweet and nice to people as well, mainly when she’s actually in a relationship with Chandler.

However, her iconic, and very annoying laugh easily grates on people and that is why she is one of the least likable love interests on the show. After all, there’s a reason why Chandler always shudders whenever she’s around.

6 Charlie

Charlie was one of the smartest love interests to appear on Friends and someone who really added a lot of fun to show when she was around. Dating both Joey and Ross, Charlie certainly made her presence known and really brought some fun moments to the show.

She was a fairly strong personality and had no problem in making her opinions be felt, which is why she wasn’t quite as likable as other characters. She was stern with people when she had to be, not holding back her opinions on anybody.

5 Pete

Pete is the richest character that appears on Friends, but the fact he’s incredibly wealthy didn’t make him arrogant or pompous. He was just someone who worked hard and had some money to spend on whatever he wanted, which made him fairly unique on this series.

Pete is very kind and caring towards Monica and is a ton of fun to be around when the group get together, which made him instantly likable. However, he’s not around quite as much as some other romantic interests, and he does end up choosing his own career aims over his love for Monica, which is a shame.

4 Julie

Julie is someone who most Friends fans didn’t actually like at the time, mainly because she was the big hurdle in the way of Ross and Rachel finally getting together as a couple. She came in at just the point when Rachel started to admit to her feelings and she was seen as a problem because of that.

However, in reality, Julie was actually a really likable person. She did nothing during her entire time on the show to be annoying to people. In fact, Julie was incredibly nice to everybody, looking to build friendships with the rest of the group and always showing an interest in Ross’ passions, which made her a really likable character.

3 David

David, who was also known as ‘The Scientist Guy’ to a lot of people was a very popular love interest on the show. He might be a little bit awkward at times and he’s not the most social of people, but he is very passionate about what he believes in and he certainly cares deeply about Phoebe.

David never really does anything wrong throughout his appearances on the show, except from choosing his work commitments over Phoebe. He’s kind and funny and he is everything that Phoebe would want, had he stuck around.

2 Richard

While Monica ultimately ends up in a marriage with Chandler Bing, few would have complained if she ended up with Richard. That’s because he was one of the nicest characters within the series, with Richard always treating Monica with nothing but respect and love.

He was charming and funny, being able to entertain anybody and the fact he got along so well with Monica’s friends only helped make him even more likable. The way that Monica and Richard ended their relationship also helped to prove how nice of a person he was, being an incredibly popular character overall.

1 Mike

Mike was easily the most likable romantic partner on the series, which is why he’s the only one outside of the group that makes a long-lasting impact, marrying Phoebe. Mike was tons of fun and really added a lot of joy to the show with his carefree attitude which complemented Phoebe perfectly.

He was kind and caring, while also being intelligent enough to know that not everything would be plain sailing in this relationship. However, the fact he does everything possible to make Phoebe’s life happy instantly made him likable to audiences.
