New cast visuals were released for the highly anticipated two-part sequel to the live-action 2017 Fullmetal Alchemist film.

The new pictures were unveiled on the official website for the new movies and offer a new look at the live-action versions of three major characters: Solf J. Kimblee, Major Miles, and Yuriy Rockbell. The villainous Ishvalan war veteran Kimblee will be played by Yuki Yamada, who in the promotional image is shown with his hands thrust outwards and a devious smile on his face.

“I was very happy and grateful to receive the offer, as I loved the original manga, watched the anime, and had always wanted to play Kimblee,” Yamada said. “I was playing the role while thinking about what kind of thoughts he was living with.”

Major Miles, Olivier Armstrong’s dutiful assistant, will be played by Yuta Hiraoka, who previously starred as an original character named Izuru in the Attack on Titan web drama. In the cast photograph, he is shown wearing his character’s iconic coat and black goggles. “I was very happy when I got the role…I had never shot so many scenes in green screen before, so the biggest thing was to see what the finished project would look like,” Hiraoka said, “It was very difficult for me to imagine and perform the image by myself.”

Yuriy Rockbell’s character will be played by Naoiito Fujiki, who previously did voicework for the film, Hunter X Hunter: Phantom Rouge. Thought to be dead in the original film, the character is shown wearing a doctor’s coat with one large bloodstain on his shoulder. “I thought the scale was very different. I was impressed by the large studio and the magnificent set,” Fujiki said. “Since I was given the role of Winry’s father this time, every time I see Tsubasa Honda-san [the actor who plays Winry in the movies] on TV, I think of her as my own daughter.”

The two new live-action Fullmetal Alchemist films are being released as part of the 20th anniversary celebration surrounding the original publication of Hiromu Arakawa’s manga. The first live-action Fullmetal Alchemist film, released in 2017, covered the events of the first four volumes. The second film, Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter-The Avenger Scar will center on the conflict between Edward Elric and Scar, one of the story’s primary antagonists. The third film, Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter-The Last Transmutation, will cover the remainder of the story.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter-The Avenger Scar is scheduled to hit theaters in Japan on May 20, 2022. Its sequel film will premiere on June 24, 2022.
