Nonso Anozie, who Game of Thrones fans know as Xaro Xhoan Daxos, comes back to screens this month as Domovoi Butler in the Disney film Artemis Fowl.
While it remains to be seen how well that film rates overall, Anozie has worked on quite a number of other projects over the years that Game of Thrones fans may not be aware of, or may have forgotten he made an appearance in. Anozie’s resume is as diverse as the city of Quaithe. Here are ten of his best works, and the scores they currently have over on IMDb.
10 The Grey – 6.8
The Grey (sometimes referred to as Liam Neeson vs wolves) follows the perils and pitfalls that a group of oil workers encounters after their plane crashes in Alaska and they are hunted by a pack of intrepid wolves.
Anozie stars as one of the oil workers who, unfortunately, is not as successful as Neeson’s John Ottway, and perishes on the journey through the snow. The film grossed over $80 million and was generally well-received by reviewers.
9 Cinderella – 6.9
In the 2015 live-action Disney remake of Cinderella, Anozie joined fellow Game of Thrones star, Richard Madden (Robb Stark) as the Captain to Madden’s prince.
The film grossed over $540 million worldwide, making it the twelfth highest-grossing film of all of 2015. Overall it has been one of the more well-received of Disney’s live-action remakes and was praised for the updates it made to many of its main characters, particularly Cinderella herself.
8 Happy Go Lucky – 7
In 2008 Anozie appeared in Happy-Go-Lucky, a British comedy that followed Poppy, an incredibly happy and optimistic primary school teacher, and the effect she had on the people around her.
Anozie portrayed Ezra, an osteopath, who treats Poppy’s back after she injures it in a trampoline accident. Its screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award, and the movie itself was nominated for Best Comedy or Musical at the year’s Golden Globe awards.
7 Tut – 7.1
Tut was a 2015 television mini-series starring Ben Kingsley. The series followed the life of the youngest Egyptian pharaoh, Tutankhamun, more commonly known as King Tut.
Kingsley portrayed Ay, the Grand Vizier to the young monarch, and Anozie took on the part of General Horemheb, a smart, yet power-hungry, military strategist to the new pharaoh. The show aired on the Spike. Anozie and Ben Kingsley had previously both appeared in the film version of Ender’s Game.
6 Rocknrolla – 7.3
Like Tut, Rocknrolla entered the world in 2008. The Guy Ritchie film starred Gerard Butler and Idris Elba and followed the London underworld as it became obsessed with a Russian mobster’s land deal and the millions of dollars there for the taking.
Anozie appeared as Tank. The film reached number one at the UK box office its opening weekend and made over $25 million worldwide. Director Guy Ritchie has long talked about doing a sequel to the film.
5 Dracula – 7.4
The Dracula television show premiered in 2013, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the title vampire. The show takes place in present-day London, where Dracula has returned to take revenge on those who helped to ruin his life hundreds of years before.
All of his plans are confused when he falls in love with a mortal woman. Anozie appeared in all ten episodes of the series as R.M. Renfield, who was both loyal to Dracula and helped to keep his secrets. The show was canceled after a single season.
4 Occupation – 7.7
Occupation was a 2009 mini-series that followed three ex-military men as they return to Basra, a city in Iraq. Anozie starred as Erik Lester, a former U.S. Marine who went into business as a private military contractor after leaving the service.
He appeared in all three episodes of the series which aired on the BBC. Occupation was very well-reviewed and won Best Drama Serial program at the 2010 BAFTA awards. It was also nominated for its writing.
3 Atonement – 7.8
Atonement was the 2007 historical drama that introduced Saoirse Ronan to the world, and also starred Keira Knightley and James McAvoy as the doomed lovers who lives were ruined, prior to World War II, but the lies told by Knightley’s younger sister.
The movie was nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture. Anozie played Frank Mace, a fellow soldier to McAvoy’s character, Robbie Turner, in the film. Alfie Allen, who played Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, also took part in the film.
2 Prime Suspect 7: The Final Act – 8.3
Anozie worked on Prime Suspect 7: The Final Act, the television movie, in 2006. He portrayed Robert. The film follows Hellen Mirren’s Detective Superintendent Jane Tennison, as she goes after one last case, following the death of her father.
She’s trying to solve the disappearance of a fourteen-year-old girl before finally entering retirement. Ellie Kendrick, who also starred, would go on to portray Meera Reed in Game of Thrones.
1 Dr. Who – 8.6
Like many of the Game of Thrones actors, Anozie appeared in an episode of Doctor Who. He took on the part of voicing Hydroflax in 2015 in the episode titled “The Husbands of River Song”.
The episode was the Christmas Special episode for 2015 and featured Anozie voicing the villainous cyborg. The episode starred Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor and Alex Kingston as River Song.
