Game Of Thrones: 10 Characters Arya Stark Never Interacts With

While Arya Stark was well-traveled, there are few characters in Game of Thrones who never had the pleasure of misfortune of meeting her.

Arya might not have as many miles under her feet as Daenerys or Tyrion, but she’s definitely one of the best-traveled characters in Game Of Thrones. She voyages from Winterfell to King’s Landing, skulks through the war-torn Riverlands, and makes her way to the Free City of Braavos on the continent of Essos. Arya returns to wreak vengeance on those guilty of destroying House Stark.

She takes dozens of lives on her various journeys, most of them by her own hand, and becomes the ultimate champion after singlehandedly putting an end to the Night King’s reign of ice and terror. Interestingly, there are several characters in Game of Thrones whose paths never cross with Arya, although a few come quite close.

10 Mace Tyrell And Arya Cross Paths In Braavos But Arya Doesn’t Interact With Him

The Lord of Highgarden in name only, Mace Tyrell wields considerable influence over the Reach (as long as his mother permits it). He doesn’t really know much about statecraft, but he’s certainly aware that the fate of House Tyrell depends on his daughter.

While Mace attempts to convince the Lannisters that Margaery would make an excellent queen, Arya sharpens her assassination skills. The two characters cross each other’s paths in Braavos, where Arya kills Mace’s bodyguard, Meryn Trant.

9 Daario Never Steps Foot On Westeros Soil

Daario is unique among sellswords in that he possesses more than a fragment of honor — he believes in protecting the innocent and using mediation to resolve conflicts. Daario later becomes Daenerys’ paramour and assists her during the sieges of Yunkai and Meereen, proving his value as both fighter and diplomat.

However, Daenerys decides that Daario’s presence in Westeros might hamper her claim to the Iron Throne. Daario spends the rest of the show in Meereen and doesn’t get the chance to meet Arya.

8 Renly Is Killed While Arya Is Stuck Serving Tywin At Harrenhal

Unwilling to be left behind by his big brothers, Renly also makes a bid for the crown, but his endeavors are cruelly crushed by Stannis and Melisandre. Arya may not appreciate Renly’s cavalier playfulness, but they would have likely become friends given their semi-mutual interests.

Arya is stuck serving Tywin Lannister at Harrenhal castle when Melisandre’s smoke-ghost slips into Renly’s tent and stabs him through the back. Arya’s mother, Catelyn, witnesses the macabre murder, though.

7 Khal Drogo’s Death Chronologically Overlaps With Ned Stark’s Execution

Khal Drogo transforms from a stubborn warlord into a relatively compassionate husband after Daenerys enters his life. The pair evolve into a Dothraki power couple in a few short months, and their relationship is further strengthened when Daenerys discovers that she’s pregnant.

Drogo is ultimately killed by Mirri Maz Duur for his crimes against a Lhazareen village, leaving Daenerys to pick up the slack. At this point, Arya, disguised as Arry, has barely managed to escape King’s Landing with her life.

6 Talisa’s Murder Is Eventually Avenged By Arya

Robb falls in love with Talisa because of her self-reliance and willingness to denounce his martial shortcomings. They get married despite stern opposition from Catelyn, who would have fully warmed up to Talisa had it not been for the Red Wedding.

Lothar Frey callously kills Talisa, but Robb has little time to mourn as his fate turns out to be the same as his wife’s. Although Talisa’s murder is eventually avenged by Arya, the sisters-in-law aren’t lucky enough to meet each other.

5 Grey Worm And Arya Come Within Speaking Distance At The Great Council

Grey Worm follows Daenerys to the ends of the world — from the city-states of Slaver’s Bay to Westeros, the Unsullied commander continues to manifest his loyalty for his queen. Grey Worm fights tooth and nail at the Battle of Winterfell before laying waste to King’s Landing at Daenerys’ behest.

He is naturally furious when Jon Snow assassinates the queen they had both bent the knee to, and insists on Jon’s execution until Bran banishes his brother to the Wall. Grey Worm and Arya watch and listen to each other, but never actually converse.

4 Shae Arrives Long After Arya Abandons King’s Landing

Shae’s background remains a puzzle after her death, but her impact on the familial politics within the Red Keep cannot be understated. Tyrion and Shae indulge in a fiery relationship and consequent marriage that threatens Tywin’s so-called honor, explaining why he drives a wedge between the couple.

Shae accepts her role as Sansa’s personal handmaiden and even helps the young Stark girl navigate her brutal captivity with a sliver of decorum. Arya abandons the city long before Shae arrives and returns long after her death.

3 Kevan Lannister Presumably Comes Into Contact With Arya Disguised As A Cupbearer

Kevan Lannister, Tywin’s only sibling, helps the latter manage Casterly Rock and, to an extent, King’s Landing. He presumably comes into contact with Arya at Harrenhal, but he’s far too focused on the Baratheon attack to bother interacting with someone he believes to be an ordinary cupbearer.

Arya is on her way back to Westeros when Cersei’s wildfire scheme is enacted, which vaporizes Kevan along with hundreds of people gathered at the Great Sept of Baelor.

2 Barristan Selmy And Arya Have A Negligible Time-Window During Which They Could Have Met

It’s likely that Barristan Selmy is the only person, aside from Ned Stark, who could have helped shape Arya into a righteous warrior. Unfortunately, Barristan is cast out of his prestigious position by King Joffrey, who proceeds to shamelessly mock the knight.

Barristan refuses to tolerate the ignominy and stridently marches out of the courtroom to find Danaerys and pledge his devotion to her. There is a fractional time-window during which Barristan could have run into Arya, but it doesn’t really happen.

1 Ygritte And Arya Would Have Become Lifelong Friends

Ygritte and Arya are arguably two peas in a pod — they are hot-tempered, trustworthy, and filled with a level of courage rarely seen in Westeros. Their similarities are further exposed by their influence on Jon Snow, someone they both care about deeply.

Although prime candidates for a lifelong friendship, Arya never gets to interact with Ygritte because of the latter’s untimely death. On the other hand, her presence might have widened the rift between Sansa and Jon, regardless of whether Ygritte deserved to die.
