Caution: Spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones season 8

The trailer has arrived for episode 4 of Game of Thrones season 8. GOT has delivered its long-awaited Battle of Winterfell episode and certainly held nothing back in terms of major character deaths, shocking twists and huge plot developments. While the episode may have had many viewers frantically hitting the brightness control on their remotes, it also brought one of the show’s central stories to a close, as the battle against the Night King began and ended in epic fashion.

After making their long journey south of the wall, the White Walkers and their army of reanimated dead finally reached Winterfell in this week’s episode, overwhelming the assembled forces of good like a medieval edition of The Walking Dead, despite the best efforts of Brienne, Grey Worm, Jorah Mormont and many more. All looked lost for Westeros as the Night King slowly closed in on Bran, only for Arya Stark to leap heroically to the rescue and finish off the arch villain and his followers once and for all with a swift, stealthy blade to the torso. The story of the Night King may be over, but with three episodes remaining until GOT bows out for good, there’s still plenty to cover.

A short trailer for the fourth episode of season 8 has now been released online by HBO. The trailer essentially reveals that after the completion of one major climactic battle, GOT will be heading straight into another, as the remaining forces of Winterfell and Cersei’s army in King’s Landing prepare to duke it out for the right to sit on the Iron Throne in what Daenerys dubs “The Last War.”

Aside from hyping up the forthcoming final battle, the trailer also confirms a few points regarding the fallout from The Battle of Winterfell and hints at how the remainder of the season will shape up. Cersei’s alliance/romance with Euron Greyjoy seems as strong as ever, although the smart money says she’ll cast him aside once his army is no longer needed. Somewhat surprisingly, a shot set in Winterfell highlights residents of the North cheering Daenerys. The Mother of Dragons and her people have been treated with skepticism since their arrival in Winterfell but the footage in this trailer seems to confirm that the recent battle has resolved any tensions. In more good news for Dany, both of her dragons are still alive. Due to the chaotic nature and general lack of visibility of this week’s episode, the fate of the dragon Jon rode was left unclear, but both creatures can clearly be seen in this trailer.

While many had the Night King pegged as GOT’s final villain, the events of this week’s episode and the footage shown in the new trailer squarely place Cersei in that role. However, The Battle of Winterfell is already being billed by fans as one of the greatest moments in Thrones history and an incredibly high bar has been set for the actual finale of the series which will seemingly be an all out scrap to become ruler of Westeros. Can Game of Thrones outdo itself once again?
