There’s no shortage of theories on what will happen in Game of Thrones season 8, so here’s some that could surprise viewers the most if they come true. HBO’s incredibly popular live-action adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s novels is in uncharted territory at this point. Creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss stayed mostly faithful to the source material for the first several seasons, but began to deviate from Martin’s vision and go beyond what he’s written more recently.

Anticipation is high for what they’ll deliver, but HBO has yet to really kick off the marketing campaign for the final season. They’ve only officially released a few seconds of footage and a handful of non-revealing photos, which has left the large fan base mostly in the dark on how the series will end. This has unsurprisingly brought countless theories into Westeros, with fans trying to decipher who will sit on the Iron Throne and what will happen during the remaining six episodes.

In the latest Screen Rant video, we discuss several theories pertaining to Game of Thrones season 8 that would completely change the series. A few of them revolve around the constant betrayal and death that the series has utilized in the past, while there’s also some that could make fans re-evaluate everything that’s happened in the series before. Plus, there’s some that fans are just dying to see, like the Cleganbowl finally happening. Check out all the theories in the video below:

As far as series changing theories go, there’s plenty of those mentioned that would certainly do the job. One of the biggest is the idea that Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) is actually a Targaryen. This would make his interactions with the Lannisters all the more interesting as fans revisit the series, while also complicating the love he definitely has for Daenerys (Emilia Clarke). But, no theory would be as surprising as Ned Stark (Sean Bean) still being alive and making a return at some point.

On a more personal note, Tyrion betraying Daenerys is a popular theory at this point, and it’ll be fairly surprising if some sort of betrayal doesn’t happen to swing the tide at some point in season 8. Fans have also wondered if Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) will kill Cersei (Lena Headey) for a shot at redemption, while others believe Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) will kill Daenerys to become king. However the series ends, Game of Thrones still has plenty of opportunities to surprise fans – and maybe some of these theories will become reality before the finale.
