Combat in Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima Combat Guide (Tips Tricks & Tactics)

Defending the citizens of Tsushima against the Mongol hordes is not going to be an easy task. Enemies tend to be relentless with their attacks. Unlike many other games, enemies do not wait around for one another to finish making their move. The Mongols are characterized by their lack of honor on the battlefield. They will not wait for the player to get ready. Players need to be on their toes at all times, and manage their surroundings.

Players will need to switch their tactics depending on the enemy. Until advanced stances are unlocked, players will have a harder time dealing with enemies carrying shields and ones carrying spears. Shield carriers will alternate between shield bashing attacks and strikes with their swords. The sword attacks can be blocked and parried, where as the shield attacks must be dodged. When it comes to spear-wielding enemies, players will need to focus entirely on dodges. The Roll Upgrade will be helpful to players in the early game.

Standoffs are a great way to manage enemies during a fight. Later in the game, players can unlock the ability to take out up to three enemies in quick succession before the fight even begins. Players would be wise to spend upgrade points on this path as soon as possible.

Managing Resolve in Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima Combat Guide (Tips Tricks & Tactics)

Avoiding all damage is not going to be an easy task. Players should be careful to manage their Resolve properly when in the thick of battle. Resolve is the amount of will Jin Sakai has during a fight. This Resolve can be used to heal Jin. Resolve is gained from defeating enemies, and with the right upgrades, blocking and parrying attacks.

It is easy to get caught up in the battle and forget to heal. Luckily, the HUD will remind players when this is necessary. When the Parry Resolve upgrades are unlocked, players may want to spend a certain amount of the fight specifically defending against an easy enemy. Blocking and parrying repeated attacks is a good way to slowly build Resolve before approaching another group of Mongols. Also keep an eye out for enemies who have not been killed by the final strike. Ending an enemy’s suffering will net a large amount of Resolve.

Defensive Weapons in Ghost of Tsushima

Enemies are likely to surround the player quickly. Use of defensive weapons is helpful during these encounters. Players will be able to unlock a number of throwables that can help disperse the crowd, stun up to two enemies at a time, or even take a few of them down at once. The most useful tool in a large fight is often the Sticky Bomb. Throw this at the biggest enemy and step back.
