Gilmore Girls: The 10 Best Moments From Lane & Zack’s Wedding

Of all the weddings in Gilmore Girls, Lane and Zack had one of the best. The music lovers and their Stars Hollow guests sure made some epic memories.

In the sixth season of Gilmore Girls, Rory’s longtime best friend and one of the most beloved characters in the series, Lane Kim, got married to Zack Van Gerbig. The episode (“I Get a Sidekick Out of You”) revolves completely around the Kim family, their traditions, and Lane and Zack’s dream wedding.

As always, no wedding in Gilmore Girls goes off without a hitch. There was plenty of drama revolving around Lorelai’s love life, but Lane and Zack had a blast despite the fact. In fact, these two crazy rock ‘n’ roll kids had one of the more entertaining weddings in the series.

Leave it to Lane and Zack to have one of the most rock ‘n’ roll-themed cakes ever known in existence. The cake is shown briefly but it’s a picture of Lane and Zack mimicking Jack and Meg White from the White Stripes. They’re even wearing the same clothes! Non-musical guests may have ignored the cake, but not those in tune with the couple’s music tastes.

9 Lane’s Wedding Dress…

Lane knew that she had to wear her mother’s wedding dress for her own wedding. The problem was that it was dated and not Lane’s style in the slightest. Mrs. Kim allowed Lorelai to alter the dress subtly to fit Lane’s body better — but Lorelai did more than that.

On the day of the wedding, Lane wore a dress that was modest enough for her family’s liking but sweet enough where she looked like a feminine bride. Seeing how much Lane loved her dress for the big day was a special moment because it wasn’t often that Lane got what she wanted.

8 …And Lane’s Surprise Wedding Dress!

When the formal ceremony was over and all of Lane’s family left the area, it was time to party. Lorelai knew Lane better than Mrs. Kim and knew that Lane deserved to party in a dress that was rocker chic. When everyone left, Lorelai zipped off Lane’s big skirt, which transformed the dress into a shorter version. It made Lane feel like a rockstar and not have to party in a dress that was hard to move in.

7 Kirk’s Bartenders Made For A Hilarious Evening

Lorelai and Christopher were shocked when it looked like there was no food or alcohol at the reception. Luckily, as soon as Lane’s family left, Kirk revealed that he was in charge of the booze after creating a company called Yummy Bartenders.

He made sure all of the bartenders were “yummy” enough to entice the guests for more drinks. Funny enough, the bartenders turned out to be too “yummy” because Kirk’s girlfriend Lulu appeared to be flirting with them. Kirk ended up canceling the short-lived company and made the bar self-serve after chasing the bartenders away.

6 Two Weddings — One Day

Mrs. Kim was thrown for a loop when she found out her mother was flying to Stars Hollow from Korea. The problem with this is that her mother honored a different religion than she and she had to essentially hide her personal belongings in the house. What’s more, Mrs. Kim’s mom expected Lane and Zack to have a traditional Buddhist ceremony. The family quickly scrambled to have a Buddhist ceremony at the house before running to the church for their planned Christian wedding. With so many guests in attendance and such a small church, everyone was running from Mrs. Kim’s to the church just to get a seat!

5 A Look Inside Kyon & Brian’s Possible Romance

While some fans wished that Brian and Lane ended up together, there was something endearing about the possibility between him and Kyon. Kyon was a foreign exchange student living with Mrs. Kim. Like Lane, she eventually found another side of herself that she liked despite Mrs. Kim’s disapproval. One of those things was Brian.

At the start of Lane and Zack’s reception, Kyon and Brian were seeing dancing but by the end of the night, there was a quick glimpse of the two making out!

4 Hep Alien’s Live Performance

It wouldn’t be a rock ‘n’ roll wedding without a live performance from Hep Alien. Once the night got crazier, the band got together on stage and sang “I’m a Believer.” With Zack up front and Lane on drums, there was no place these two would rather be. It was also fun to see Hep Alien back together and performing in front of all their loved ones.

3 Mrs. Kim Finally Gave Lane Permission To Party

When the reception was starting, Mrs. Kim left with her family. She was never the partying type and wanted her daughter to have the night she had been dreaming about instead of worrying about her mother’s judgments. Before leaving, however, she shared a special moment with Lane where she told her she was going to bed early and wearing earplugs so as to drown out the partying throughout the night. In a subtle way, this was Mrs. Kim’s way of telling Lane to enjoy her moment and do what she wanted.

2 Christopher & Rory Bonded Over Logan

Christopher and Rory have had their ups and downs over the years. They haven’t always seen eye to eye, so it was nice for Rory to know that her dad approved of one of her more serious relationships in her adult life. While sitting at the table amongst all the noise, Christopher told her that he liked Logan and that he hoped they were happy together. It was a sweet moment for the two.

1 Rory & Brian’s Speeches

After Hep Alien’s performance, it was time for speeches. Brian went first and made an adorable speech about Lane being too good for Zack and that if they ever broke up Hep Alien was screwed. Rory spoke after Brian and shared a fond memory of her friendship with Lane by reading an old letter Lane wrote her in 1995. The letter was comical and showed how far back Rory and Lane’s friendship went. At the same time, it was time to turn a new leaf into adulthood.
