Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Kurt Hummel

In FOX’s hit musical series Glee, Kurt Hummel quickly became a huge fan favorite for his designer fashion-forward style, being true to himself, and his hilarious quotes. Not to mention, he became a gay icon for many young teens around the world who found themselves struggling with their true selves.

But although Kurt had a ton of great moments, he also had a bunch of storylines that were quickly swept under the carpet and forgotten- which ultimately caused some confusion amongst viewers as most of the forgotten moments quickly lost meaning and didn’t make any sense for the later seasons!

10 His Relationship With His Dad

Burt Hummel was most definitely a beloved character throughout the entire series as he gave an entirely new meaning to being an attentive and loving father- but Kurt definitely didn’t seem him as that great of a dad in season one. Given that the two had two completely different personalities and couldn’t be more different, but Burt constantly gave him his support and love in every situation. But Kurt often treated him as if he thought his dad hated the way that he acted and dressed. It wasn’t until after Burt started paying more attention to Finn when he realized that his dad truly cares for him more than anything in the world- the fact that it took him this long to realize this makes no sense.

9 Convincing Mercedes That He Liked Rachel

As if Kurt’s fashion sense, designer outfits, and big personality didn’t give away a huge red flag as to his sexual orientation, his best friend Mercedes Jones found herself falling for him and ignoring every possibility of him being gay. After she confesses her love for him, he somehow convinces her that he is in love with Rachel Berry and that the two of them have a lot of chemistry since they are constantly competing for solos in Glee Club. By the end of the episode, Kurt comes clean to Mercedes and admits that he is gay and had no intention of hurting her. Surprisingly, Mercedes’s crush on Kurt is never mentioned again throughout the series and the two go on about being friends like it never happened.

8 His Somewhat Obsessive Crush On Finn

Obviously, the thought of Kurt and Finn as a couple doesn’t make any sense, since in the later seasons of the series their parents end up falling in love with each other and getting married and not to mention in season one Finn was dating Quinn while crushing on Rachel- but that didn’t keep Kurt from being somewhat obsessive over him.

Whether it was just a little school crush or not, there is no denying that Kurt took things to the next level as he constantly tried to make Finn fall in love with him in awkward situations and by introducing their parents to each other in order for them to spend more time together, but ultimately after things don’t go his way he somehow forgets about even having feelings for Finn by season two!

7 Teaching The Football Team “Single Ladies”

Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Kurt Hummel

After Kurt joins the school football team and teaches the players Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” dance in season one, it instantly becomes a huge hit for the series- but this moment soon goes forgotten as the seasons go on. Shortly after he wins the game for them by performing the dance on the field, he quickly leaves the football team and finds himself joining the Cheerios alongside Mercedes which causes a bit of controversy. But his time on the squad also doesn’t last too long when he ultimately quits out of nowhere as well and his time on both teams is never mentioned again.

6 His Commute To Dalton Academy

Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Kurt Hummel

A huge error from season two that not many people realize is the distance between Dalton Academy and William McKinley High School. With William McKinley being located in Lima and Dalton Academy being in Westerville, which is nearly two hours away from each other, it doesn’t quite make sense as to how or why Kurt drove that long of a distance to get to school every single day. The only way that this would really make any sense is if Kurt was spending the night with Blaine or another Warbler every day, but throughout season two he also mentions that he is still living at home with his dad so this definitely doesn’t connect.

5 His Anger Towards Blaine After Kissing Rachel

Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Kurt Hummel

In season two’s episode titled “Blame It On The Alcohol”, the Glee Club decides to throw a crazy party and soon start to play spin the bottle. When it lands on Blaine and Rachel Berry, Kurt is quick to be concerned and gets even more upset when he starts to believe that Blaine could be bisexual and that he has feelings for Rachel.

Ultimately Kurt was completely right about Blaine being gay and not bisexual nor interested in Rachel, but his lashing out and refusing to let Blaine be open and confused about his sexual orientation was completely out of character for him and didn’t make too much sense in the long run.

4 His Many Break-Ups With Blaine

Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Kurt Hummel

It is no secret that Kurt and Blaine had a lot of back and forth breakups throughout the entire series, and although their first break up seemed more legit with an actual purpose the rest of them just seemed a bit out of character for their relationship. Their second break up in season five was incredibly random and showed a different side of Kurt than we had seen before, shortly after Kurt starts going out of his way to seem needy and pushing all of his issues onto Blaine. Maybe graduating high school can do that to a person, but this was definitely not a needed storyline since the two of them were just going to end up married anyway!

3 Joining “Adam’s Apples”

Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Kurt Hummel

While living in New York in season four, Kurt meets a new love interest named Adam Crawford who is the leader of an NYADA Glee Club named “Adam’s Apples” and soon after he meets the group he quickly learns how similar the club is to the New Directions with their diversity and unique song choices which makes his joining that much more comfortable. “Adams Apples” could have had a lot more screentime and a much better storyline, but of course, they only got a small amount of screentime and they were long forgotten after Kurt was kicked out for breaking up with Adam and getting back with Blaine.

2 His Vogue Internship

Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Kurt Hummel

At the beginning of season four, after Kurt moves to New York with Rachel and Santana, he scores an amazing internship with Vogue magazine’s website. He ultimately found the internship while waiting for the NYADA winter auditions, but nonetheless this internship isn’t something that comes easy to just anyone so it was a pretty big deal for him to be working for such a large well-known company.

Ultimately, towards the end of the season, his internship changed to an assistant job making it even more of a special moment for Kurt. But somehow this amazing job goes forgotten and is never mentioned again as he goes on to marry Blaine and starts working on their future together and completely leaving his Vogue storyline behind.

1 His Wedding

Seeing how Kurt was completely against the idea of Brittany and Santana getting married because he thought they were just too young in season 6, it doesn’t quite make much sense as to why he would be perfectly fine with getting married to Blaine after all of their unsolved problems and all of the pain that he put him through. The two of them weren’t together for months on end and Kurt even watched as he dated his high school bully, Karofsky, so for them to want to get married so quickly it definitely makes their relationship even more unhealthy. Even in the series finale episode, we see a glimpse into their future as they are planning on starting a family but still pushing all of their real-life problems aside.
