A new Godzilla vs. Kong poster has been released, showing the creatures clashing underwater. Next month, the world’s greatest monsters crossover for the first time in over 50 years. Marketing began to ramp up with the release of the official poster last month, teasing one Titan will fall.

Godzilla vs. Kong is one of the most anticipated blockbusters of the year. Given the premise, this isn’t surprising. A crossover concept is a fun one, and Godzilla vs. Kong is bringing the two literal largest icons in popular culture to the big screen. After months of suspense, Legendary released the trailer, teasing massive action. Godzilla comes for Kong on an aircraft carrier, the two come to blows in the city, and Kong absorbs the reptile’s beam with some kind of axe. Godzilla vs. Kong looks to satisfy in the action department. Much to fans’ delight, some of the action will occur in daylight instead of the nighttime battles in 2014’s Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The trailer teases an involved plot and Kong as a heroic figure while Godzilla is seemingly an antagonist. The synopsis says the conflict will be “instigated by unseen forces,” so there’s certainly a mystery element as well.

A Chinese poster for Godzilla vs. Kong (via Kaiju News Outlet) has been released. Unlike the English poster, which teases the impending clash, the new visual shows full shots of the monsters in mid-battle. Check it out below.

If the poster is an indication, Godzilla and Kong will come to blows underwater during the aircraft carrier sequence. This might have been teased in the second trailer when Kong falls into the water after Godzilla attacks. Although the reptile should have a clear advantage, it would make for a visually stunning action scene.

Several moviegoers might conclude Godzilla has the advantage in most areas. However, it’s important to remember a few key things. The giant ape was already strong in Kong: Skull Island, and he wasn’t even fully grown. Kong likely exceeds Godzilla in agility and movement. Finally, Kong acquires a battle axe in the upcoming film, which seems to absorb Godzilla’s atomic breath. Considering all this, the battle is closer than what many moviegoers might think. Speculation will continue to flourish as fans pick a side for the grandest showdown of 2021. No matter the outcome, Godzilla vs. Kong is sure to entertain those watching in theaters or at home, perhaps even more so than previous MonsterVerse entries.
