The hit show Grace and Frankie is filled with shocking twists and turns. The show follows two families in the aftermath of the discovery of a secret affair between Sol and Robert, the husbands of the title characters Grace and Frankie.

Though these characters are flawed, they feel very real and genuine. Fans can feel good about rooting for these characters most of the time. At times, all of the characters – including Sol, make mistakes that feel unforgivable.

10 Hated: Affair With Robert

Sol and Robert are a beautiful couple. Like any couple, they have their disagreements and their problems. But their love for each other always triumphs and it is joyous to see these two accept themselves and enjoy their relationship after years of hiding.

The problem is that they hid their relationship for over 20 years while still being married to their spouses. A secret affair of this length is particularly difficult to cope. Sol and Frankie had a strong relationship, and was heartbroken.

9 Felt Bad: Robert Wouldn’t Watch Spelling Bee

One of Sol’s greatest joys in life is watching the national spelling bee. This was a tradition of his and Frankie’s for years. The first year of Robert and Sol’s marriage, Robert has no interest in joining Sol for this event.

In this moment, Sol is forced to acknowledge that there are things Frankie provided him in a relationship that he isn’t going to get from Robert. Watching him struggle with this realization and work through redefining his relationship with Frankie was heart-wrenching.

8 Hated: Cutting Off Credit Cards

Shortly after the separation, Robert convinced Sol they need to cut off Grace and Frankie’s access to the credit cards. Sol is originally hesitant but goes along with the plan. He doesn’t even give Frankie a heads up that this is coming.

Frankie felt extremely betrayed by this as she had never given Sol a reason not to trust her. In fact, the only one who had violated trust in the relationship was Sol. This was just another betrayal on top of an open wound.

7 Felt Bad: Dog Got Out

Everyone can relate to the love that Sol feels for his dog Carl. When Frankie spends the day with Robert, the two get high and eat a lot of Chinese food. In their distorted state of mind, they accidentally leave the door open – allowing Carl to escape. When Sol comes home to find that Carl is missing, he is very unhappy. Both because of Robert’s decisions and dismay over his missing pet.

6 Hated: Screwing Jack In Divorce

It is no secret that Robert and Sol are good lawyers. When we meet Frankie’s new boyfriend Jack, he talks about how challenging his life was after his ex-wife took everything in their divorce.

When Frankie brings him over to Robert and Sol’s place to meet them, Jack quickly realizes that they are the lawyers who represented his ex. While they were only doing their job, fans can’t help but hate Robert and Sol a bit during this scene after getting to know Jack and learning about his struggle.

5 Felt Bad: Robert Spent Their Honeymoon Money

Robert is desperate to save his theatre from closing. So much so, that he spends $20,000 of the couple’s money without talking to Sol. In a desperate attempt to hide what he has down, he sells their burial plots to recoup the lost money.

Sol had been looking forward to taking a honeymoon with Robert and was rightfully upset that Robert spent their money and sold their burial plots without talking to him. Sol feels so betrayed by this act that he buys a motorcycle out of revenge!

4 Hated: Lying To Frankie About Kenny Loggins

One of Frankie’s biggest success stories was always that she sold a painting to Kenny Loggins. This was something she was extremely proud of and a story she told over and over. Unfortunately, it is revealed that Sol lied to her to try and boost her confidence. Frankie was crushed by this discovery and even began to question her artistic ability.

3 Felt Bad: Robert’s Heart Attack

When Robert had a heart attack, Sol was in a panic. He was so scared he was going to loose the man he loved. The pair got married in the hospital, fearing the worst with Robert’s upcoming surgery.

Sol is a worrier by nature and dealing with a challenge this large was difficult for him. His worry about Robert’s health has continued to effect their relationship with Sol constantly stressing over the decisions Robert makes.

2 Hated: Sleeping With Frankie

As Sol and Frankie cared deeply for each other, they struggle after their relationship ends. In a moment of weakness, the two sleep together. This moment was the ultimate betrayal. Robert wasn’t the only one hurt by this choice. Frankie had been working so hard to move on after losing her best friend. By sleeping with her, Sol reset the healing process and made the situation even more complicated than it already was.

1 Felt Bad: Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Sol always cared a great deal about his health. When he finds out he has early-stage prostate cancer, he is shocked. He is worried about what this means for his health and his relationship with Robert. Watching him process the difficult news and go through the grieving process as he accepts this truth is extremely moving.
