Fans of the GTA series have been starved for news on Grand Theft Auto 6 for years, seeking out any bit of info they can find on the project. One thorough fan noticed an interesting comment from Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick, a comment that may indicate the current development situation of GTA 6.

The Twitter account GTA 6 NEWS, which recently shared a statement on GTA 6 from Franklin’s voice actor, posted the quote as well as the source. In a conference for investment group Goldman Sachs, Zelnick discussed how every Take-Two team has been “working from home, and they have been incredibly productive ever since.” However, the interesting part of the quote deals with the continuation of motion capture.

Zelnick states that Take-Two is “back in the motion capture business” and that they “were not for a while.” He says this could have created a problem and is happy that motion capture is continuing. Zelnick also states that he has “not seen any degradation in quality whatsoever,” a reassurance to investors that the games being developed by Take-Two will not be any worse off due to developers working from home because of COVID-19. With other Take-Two projects like The Outer Worlds and its new DLC not requiring motion capture, it is easy to assume Zelnick is referring to GTA 6.

While Zelnick did not specifically refer to GTA 6 in the comment regarding motion capture, many fans will likely infer that this was the game being discussed. When combined with a recent Rockstar employee resume, Grand Theft Auto 6 looks to be a fair bit along in its development cycle. When fans get any official news beyond this motion capture comment and resume descriptions is anyone’s guess. Grand Theft Auto 5 had its seventh anniversary only a few days ago, yet details on its sequel are still vague.

With a recent leak regarding Rockstar’s next game indicating that it may not be Grand Theft Auto 6, the project could easily still be years away from an official release. There is no telling what the game will be like when it does finally arrive, as it could be quite different from its predecessor. Whether it will keep the three-protagonist system from GTA 5 is unclear, as is what new features the game could include. With only small scraps of information being discovered by fans every few weeks, it seems like Take-Two and Rockstar fell no urge to talk about the project any time soon.

Some form of official announcement sooner rather than later would be nice though, considering that some fans are wondering if GTA 6 will have a story mode at all. An entirely online GTA game is not out of the realm of possibility given the success of GTA Online, so it will be interesting to see what exactly GTA 6 is like when it is finally shown to the public.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is reportedly in development.
