Gravity Falls Cast & Character Guide What The Actors Look Like

Gravity Falls features an eclectic cast of characters and behind those incredible characters is an incredible cast of voice actors. The Disney animated series only ran for two seasons, but the show developed an intricate storyline that varies from silly to dark, making it a series that all age groups can enjoy, as well as pushing some boundaries despite its constraints. At the time, Disney faced some backlash surrounding the show when creator Alex Hirsch revealed that he was forbidden by Disney from including openly LGBTQ characters in the animated series.

After the Mystery Twins — Mabel and Dipper Pines — are sent to stay with their Grunkle Stan in Gravity Falls for the summer, they discover there is more to the boring Oregon town than they originally thought. When Dipper discovers a mysterious notebook in the woods, the 12-year-olds are thrown into the world of the supernatural, taking on gnomes, zombies, interdimensional demons, and the scariest thing of all: summer romances. With the help of their friends and family, Mabel and Dipper have to unravel the mysteries of Gravity Falls in order to save the eccentric little town from imminent destruction.

Despite some of the controversy, Gravity Falls is a series known for embracing those who may be seen as outcasts and finding the best in the things that make us different. From veterans of the industry to first-time voice actors, it took a wide variety of talent to put together the beautifully eccentric characters of the quirky series. Here is a comprehensive guide to the cast and characters of Gravity Falls.

Kristen Schaal As Mabel Pines

Mabel Pines is one half of the Pines twins — or, as she prefers to refer to them, the Mystery Twins. As the older twin, Mabel has a big personality and a proclivity for the eccentric and flamboyant, which is reflected in her colorful, electric sweaters and novelty earrings. Mabel’s boy-craziness lands her with some unusual boyfriends, including one Spanish merman and five gnomes in a trenchcoat who are determined to make Mabel their queen. While Mabel might seem like she doesn’t take very much seriously, she is always there when her friends and family need a little support.

Kristen Schaal is a veteran voice actor. On top of voicing Mabel in Gravity Falls, Schaal is best known for voicing Louise Belcher on Bob’s Burgers, Sarah Lynn on BoJack Horseman, and Trixie in Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4. Schaal has also appeared in series like What We Do In The Shadows and movies like My Spy. As a comedian, Kristen Schaal has years of stand-up comedy under her belt, as well as winning titles such as “Best Alternative Comedian” and “Best Female Stand-Up Comedian.”

Jason Ritter As Mason “Dipper” Pines

Dipper Pines is the more studious half of the Mystery Twins. After finding a mysterious journal in the forest of Gravity Falls, Dipper becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth behind its origins. Where Mabel is confident in her instincts, Dipper is all about logic and facts. While that can lead him to second-guess himself, Dipper’s knowledge of the supernatural often comes in handy during their adventures. Dipper is desperate to prove himself as a man, but as the series unfolds, he learns there is more to being a man than just being tough.

Jason Ritter is no stranger to television. Ritter has appeared on A Million Little Things and Drunk History and starred as Kevin Finn in Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. He has also lent his voice to Skipper in Wander Over Yonder and Ryder in Frozen II. Jason is a second-generation actor as the son of Nancy Morgan and the late John Ritter, who famously portrayed Jack Tripper in Three’s Company.

Alex Hirsch As Stanley “Grunkle Stan” Pines, Bill Cipher, and Jesus Alzamirano “Soos” Ramirez

When Dipper and Mabel are sent to spend their summer in Gravity Falls, they are sent to stay with their Great Uncle Stan — or, as he’s commonly referred to as, Grunkle Stan. As the owner of the Mystery Shack, Grunkle Stan is always looking for the newest way to make or save a dollar. All of the exhibits inside the Mystery Shack may be fake, but Grunkle Stan has some serious mysteries hidden underneath. While he might be gruff on the outside, Stan can be soft for those he truly cares about, in particular his great-niece and nephew.

Bill Cipher is the antagonist of Gravity Falls. As an interdimensional demon, Bill Cipher has the ability to enter people’s minds and bodies in order to bend them to his will. Bill Cipher is typically depicted as a bright yellow triangle with a single eye, reminiscent of Illuminati iconography, but when his temper gets the best of him, Bill turns bright red with anger. Bill’s allegiances change often throughout the series, doing the work of anyone who summons him (for a price, of course). References to Bill Cipher can be found in the background of many Gravity Falls episodes for eagle-eyed viewers to find.

Soos, the Mystery Shack’s handyman, is practically part of the Pines family and yet another character voiced by Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch. Though he’s a bit dimwitted, Soos has a big heart, and he is quickly wrapped up in the twins’ attempts to unravel the mysteries surrounding Gravity Falls. Soos is incredibly loyal to his friends, willing to go along with whatever plan they might come up with, whether they’re entering Gruncle Stan’s brain to protect the code to his safe or exploring an underground forest bunker. Soos can often be found doing typical “boy stuff” with Dipper, like blowing up hot dogs in the microwave.

Alex Hirsch wears many hats in the entertainment industry. Hirsch is the creator of Gravity Falls, as well as serving as an executive producer and the voice of various characters. As a writer, he has worked on shows like The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Kid Cosmic, and the new Netflix series Inside Job. As a voice actor, Hirsch has appeared in Rick and Morty, The Owl House, and Inside Job. Hirsch has also authored two Gravity Falls books, Gravity Falls: Lost Legends and Gravity Falls: Journal 3.

Linda Cardellini As Wendy Corduroy

Wendy Corduroy is another employee of the Mystery Shack. Wendy is a laidback 15-year-old who would rather be hanging out with her friends than working the cash register. However, the Mystery Twins quickly befriend her, inviting her to come along on various adventures. Over the course of the summer, Dipper develops a crush on Wendy, who is a little bit older and a little bit cooler than him. Wendy is the daughter of Manly Dan, whose lumberjack skills help Wendy on some of their adventures.

Linda Cardellini has an extensive background in TV and movies. She has held various roles in the Scooby-Doo franchise, portraying characters like Hot Dog Water in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated and Velma Dinkley in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies. Cardellini also plays Laura Barton, Clint’s wife, in the upcoming Hawkeye show and various other MCU movies. Additionally, she has lent her voice to series like Regular Show and Sanjay and Craig.

J.K. Simmons As Stanford Filbrick “Grunkle Ford” Pines

Grunkle Ford, or The Author, is Grunkle Stan’s long-lost mysterious twin brother. After disappearing through a portal in 1982, Grunkle Ford returns from an alternate dimension. It is revealed that Grunkle Ford was a paranormal investigator who wrote the three mysterious journals that were hidden throughout Gravity Falls. Though he was once friends with Bill Cipher, Grunkle Ford aids the rest of the family in helping to stop the demon’s plan to infiltrate their dimension.

J.K. Simmons is an acting icon. He is best known for portraying J. Jonah Jameson in various Spider-Man movies and games, including the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and the MCU/Sony Spider-Man films. J.K. Simmons has also lent his voice to characters like Tenzin in The Legend of Korra, Mayor Lionheart in Zootopia, and Omni-Man in Invincible.
