Lexie Grey first appears in season 3 of the hit primetime medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy. Lexie is the daughter of Thatcher Grey, who is also Meredith’s father. Lexie and Meredith have different mothers, making them half-sisters. Lexie definitely comes off as the younger sister in her and Meredith’s relationship.

She always seems to need something and at times can be incredibly annoying. Lexie also has a heart of gold and would do just about anything for the people she loves. Lexie seems to be the perfect balance of someone who can get on your nerves while simultaneously giving you butterflies.

10 Annoying: She Won’t Leave Meredith Alone

When Lexie accepts an internship at Seattle Grace so that she can stay in Seattle and be closer to her father, who suffers from alcoholism, she knows it means she will be working with her older sister. She wastes no time introducing herself to Meredith and letting her know about their biological relationship.

Meredith wants nothing to do with Lexie right from the start and draws very clear boundaries, which Lexie can’t seem to respect, no matter how many times Meredith asks her to do so.

9 Sweet: Her Crush On George

One of the first of her fellow interns Lexie bonds with is George, who has to repeat his internship year having not passed his intern exams with the rest of his friends. Lexie develops strong feelings for George in a way that mimics the crush that George had on Meredith during their first year of internship together.

Lexie’s feelings drive her to steal George’s files from Webber’s office where she learns George failed his exams by only one point and she helps George convince the chief to let him retake the exams, which he does.

8 Annoying: Her Relationship With Alex

Lexie is a smart girl when it comes to medicine and studying, but when it comes to men, she isn’t always the wisest. When Lexie realizes her feelings for George aren’t being reciprocated, she rebounds into the arms of Alex Karev, who always seems to be the guy every girl turns to when they need to escape their feelings.

Lexie falls into the trap, but she’s better than that, so her poor choices seem out of character and that’s frustrating for fans to have to sit back and watch.

7 Sweet: Her Relationship With Nick

Lexie is tending to a patient named Nick, played by Seth Green, who had a tumor on his neck. Mark was able to remove Nick’s tumor but left his carotid artery very exposed post-surgery. Lexie’s job is to make sure the artery doesn’t rupture and if it does, to page Mark immediately.

Nick likes Lexie and the two begin to flirt. The flirting is sweet and innocent, but also hopeful. If Nick makes it out of this whole ordeal, he’d like to take Lexie out. Unfortunately, they never get the chance. Nick’s artery bursts and he dies in surgery.

6 Annoying: Tries To Take Out Sadie’s Appendix

One of the most annoying things about Lexie is how much she seems to need other people’s approval. She spends so much time worrying about what Meredith, her friends, and the other interns think about her, she leaves herself vulnerable to her co-workers.

When some of her fellow interns start performing small, secretive procedures on each other to “practice,” Lexie knows it’s a bad idea, but she gives in to peer pressure and tries to remove Sadie’s appendix. Of course, whatever could go wrong, does go wrong, and Lexie ends up having to run to her residents to bail her out of a bad situation.

5 Sweet: She Eats Meredith’s Eggs

After Nick dies, Cristina takes Lexie under her wing and the two women, along with Meredith, go out for a drink and some dancing. The three doctors have a lot of fun, so much fun that Lexie passes out at Meredith’s house.

Lexie wakes up to Meredith making her breakfast. Meredith makes Lexie eggs, which she eats, despite being allergic to them. Lexie doesn’t want to turn Meredith down, so she eats what her sister has cooked, and is later admitted into the hospital with an allergic reaction.

4 Annoying: She Pushes Mark Away

When Lexie falls for Mark Sloan, there are some immediate issues with the relationship, the biggest being the age gap. Mark is the one who is the most hesitant at first, realizing he is significantly older than the woman he’s falling for, but Lexie spends a lot of time and energy convincing Mark that age is only a number and that they should be together.

Mark eventually agrees, only to have Lexie dump him when Mark’s pregnant teenage daughter shows up looking for him and Lexie tells Mark she’s too young to be a grandmother.

3 Sweet: She’s Very In Touch With Her Emotions

Lexie is one of the most empathic characters on the show. She feels all of her feeling fully and never seems to shy away from her emotions or anyone else’s. It seems that whenever something major happens, Lexie feels it the most in a way that lets everyone else around her feel it in a healthy way too.

This superpower can also be kryptonite. After a mass shooting at the hospital, Lexie has a breakdown and needs to take time off from the hospital to take care of herself and get treatment for her trauma.

2 Annoying: Stealing April’s Notebook

When Seattle Grace merges with Mercy West, tensions are high and all of the doctors from both hospitals are on edge. This stress makes Lexie meaner than audiences have seen her before. Lexie develops a rivalry with a Mercy West resident, April Kepner.

The rude banter seems harmless enough, at least, until Lexie takes it too far. Lexie steals April’s notebook and makes its contents public to all of the other doctors at the hospital. Her actions genuinely hurt April and make fans question Lexie’s character and judgment.

1 Sweet: Lexie Tells Mark She Loves Him

For most of the time Lexie is on the show, she and Mark are on-again, off-again. In season 8, Lexie and Mark, along with a few other doctors from Seattle Grace Mercy West, are on a private plane that crashes.

Lexie was sitting in the back of the plane, which broke off during the crash, separating Lexie from the rest of the group. When they finally find her, Lexie is trapped under the plane and dying. Lexie uses her final breath to tell Mark that she loves him.
