GTA 6 Side Missions Grand Theft Auto Has Never Tried

Over the last several months, Grand Theft Auto 6 rumors have started to heat up. Players have seen rumors and leaks detailing where GTA 6 might take place, as well as a potential release window and possible Grand Theft Auto 6 map locations. One important feature fans haven’t heard much about is potential new side missions for Grand Theft Auto 6.

Since Grand Theft Auto 3, Rockstar has made it a point to push realism forward in its titles. One of the biggest ways they do this is by providing a full environmental experience, with an open world stuffed full of things to do. And, given all the advancements players have seen from other open world games since Grand Theft Auto 5 released, it’s fun to speculate what Rockstar can do on next-gen consoles. With that new hardware, there’s potential to reach a new bar in terms of variety and depth.

Grand Theft Auto 5 introduced a new hunting side mission for Trevor Phillips. This took systems the team at Rockstar developed in the original Red Dead Redemption and incorporated it into GTA 5. The developers could do the exact same thing with GTA 6 and introduce a fishing side mission. Not only is fishing already a mechanic in Red Dead Redemption 2, but it would provide players with a great new leisure option to wind down after all the vehicular murdering.

Other Side Missions GTA 6 Could Feature

Taking a page from another past Rockstar game, Grand Theft Auto 6 could feature private detective side missions. While it’s a bit unreasonable to expect the team to do all of the mocap work that went into L.A. Noire, the idea of solving cases is intriguing for a Grand Theft Auto protagonist. Whether the character is a disgraced former lawman or just happens to end up in this position, it’s a side mission with tons of potential for fun gameplay and hilarious character interactions.

Another side mission that wouldn’t be out of place in GTA 6 is some sort of business sim. Now, this wouldn’t be an in-depth business management simulator. Instead, it would be more like the side activities in Yakuza 0’s Cabaret Club. It’s very easy to imagine a GTA protagonist finding his or her way into running a bar or some other venture. Hiring staff and managing the surface-level day-to-day activities could be a hoot given Rockstar’s track record of satire and interesting Grand Theft Auto characters.

Something completely out of left field (no pun intended) would be to allow Grand Theft Auto 6 players to coach a youth sports team. This might stray a little too close to what players would want out of a business sim, but it would be possible to make both work. Imagine a scenario like the ones seen in The Mighty Ducks or Hardball. Players are a known GTA 6 criminal who is then given a court order to help out a struggling youth sports team. Except, in the GTA universe, this story is much less likely to have a happy Hollywood ending for everyone involved.

These are just a sampling of potential side missions Grand Theft Auto 6 could add to the mix. It’s also worth noting that the game’s setting will play a huge part in what the team is able to implement. For example, if GTA 6 is set back in Liberty City, a fishing side mission makes less sense. Likewise, the private detective side missions could take a turn if the game is set in the bayou of New Orleans.

Either way, it’s safe to predict that Rockstar will deliver all kinds of new side content for players to dive into when Grand Theft Auto 6 does finally release. Not only will that satisfy fans looking for the studio’s brand of immersion, but it’s also a great way to test out new activities for whatever the developers do with Grand Theft Auto Online in the future.
