Guardians of the Galaxy Lottery Ticket Guide (How it Works & Should You Buy One)

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy features the ability to purchase a lottery ticket that has a jackpot worth five million units. The ticket can be bought when players travel to Knowhere in Chapter 6, and it costs 1,000 units. Unfortunately, buying the ticket may not be worth the steep price, especially for players that want to keep their promise and pay the Nova Corps fine later on.

The amount of units players have to spend will depend on decisions made earlier in the game, such as who players chose to sell to Lady Hellbender. There are also choices in Chapter 4 for selling Groot or Rocket that can lead to more units. When in the vault after selling Rocket, players will need to find all the highlighted bowls to get 12,000 units. To get the same amount selling Groot, Star-Lord will need to let Drax take the lead and back him up when given the opportunity.

Like most of the events to interact with on Knowhere, there is a con element with the lottery machine. Players may not realize this until later in the game, but there is a catch to purchasing a lottery ticket. The lottery ticket requires that players turn in their ticket later after the lottery is drawn, which proves to be impossible. However, there is a small benefit to buying the ticket.

Buying a Lottery Ticket in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

For players that have extra credits, or don’t care about clearing their debt with GotG’s Nova Corps, buying the lottery ticket can help with an achievement. The ticket counts towards the Galactic Compendium, and it is fairly simple to obtain. Players looking to get the “Lore Hoarder” achievement/trophy will need to fill out 65% of the compendium in each category, and the lottery ticket is among the easiest to find.

In Chapter 6 of GotG, the lottery machine on Knowhere can be found just outside of the Collector’s Emporium. It’s a circular, white machine that says, “Knowhere Lottery,” on it, and a pixelated face will appear when Star-Lord approaches it. Players can then purchase a lottery ticket for 1,000 units, with the potential payoff of five million units. Although tempting, there is no way to check if the ticket is a winning one or claim the jackpot.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy features many decisions that can have unexpected consequences. If players spend too much in Chapter 6 while roaming around Knowhere, then they won’t be able to pay the fine they owe Nova Corps. The lottery ticket doesn’t have any payoff except that it counts towards an achievement/trophy. Otherwise, there’s no reason for players to purchase it.
