Hades Achilles & Patroclus Romance Guide

In addition to escaping the Underworld, Hades offers a number of compelling side-quests. While Zagreus is ransacking Hades’ domain from Tartarus through to the surface, he’ll encounter a number of new faces. One of these characters is Patroclus, a fallen warrior from Greek myth with romantic ties to Achilles. In Hades, players can bring them back together, continuing their story to a happier conclusion.

Now, gift as much nectar as possible to both Achilles and Patroclus in Hades. This unlocks new interactions as Zagreus returns to speak with each hero, and the story of their love and separation will gradually unfold. As in the classical myth, Achilles and Patroclus were warriors in the Trojan war. After being dishonored by their king, Achilles left the fighting, and Patroclus led the army in his stead. Patroclus fought hard yet fell in combat, causing Achilles to fly into an intense rage. He harnessed this anger to end the war, yet was slain towards the end of the fighting.

Reuniting Patroclus and Achilles in Hades

Towards the end of their conversations in Hades, Patroclus will ask Zagreus to repeat the phrase “Risk it all” to Achilles. Upon receiving this message, Achilles is encouraged to seek the alteration of his contract with Hades, so that he can visit Patroclus in Elysium. Players now have the opportunity to do so, given that the House Contractor’s Administrative Privilege work order has been bought. If it’s not yet unlocked, keep completing Hades runs until Zagreus mentions that he needs some rest. A flashback will play involving Zagreus’ previous access to Hades’ admin chamber, and afterward, re-entry can be purchased for three Diamonds.

With the chamber open, it’s time to ask Nyx’s help in locating Achilles’ contract. Be sure to have given her at least five nectar. Speak with her whenever possible, and Nyx will soon disclose the location of the contract, buried among Hades’ mess of scrolls. Go grab it, and after another run, the House Contractor should have available the Hero’s Sacrifice work order. It’ll cost five diamonds, so it’s time to hunt some bounties.

To earn diamonds in Hades, defeat the Bone Hydra with each Infernal Arm, and then repeat with an easy modifier active on the Pact of Punishment – Convenience Fee works well. Other options include trading with the Wretched Broker, completing certain prophecies on the Fated List, or saving 1,000 gold for Charon’s high-ticket shop in the Temple of Styx.

Zagreus can then deliver the great news to Achilles, and point him to the cove in Elysium where Patroclus sits. Achilles wastes no time, teleporting right off to reunite with his friend and lover. On later trips through Elysium, the two can be found reminiscing together, and will happily converse with Zagreus as he’s passing through.
