Halloween 5 Jamie Lloyd & Michael Myers’ Psychic Connection Explained

There’s a psychic connection between Michael Myers and Jamie Lloyd, as is evident upon watching Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. The 1989 American slasher movie—written and directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard—is the fifth installment of the Halloween franchise, and centers on the killer Michael Myers returning to the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois to murder his niece, Jamie (Danielle Harris)—who is also the daughter of the original movie’s Laurie Strode, though later all of these relationships were retconned—one year after the events of Halloween 4.

1988’s Halloween 4, written by Alan B. McElroy and directed by Dwight H. Little, has a shock ending involving Jamie. Throughout the movie, Jamie and her adopted sister, Rachel (Ellie Cornell), are terrorized by Michael on Halloween night. Dr. Samuel Loomis (Donald Pleasence), Michael’s longtime psychiatrist, tries to stop Michael from killing the girls. In the end, Rachel runs over Michael, and Jamie goes up to him and touches his hand, before the state police shower him in gunfire.

After Michael is supposedly killed by the police, the girls are taken home and Jamie’s mother runs her a bath. Suddenly, in an action eerily reminiscent of the prologue of the original Halloween from 1978, Jamie—dressed as a clown—stabs her mother with scissors. Loomis begins to sob, because he knows Jamie has become possessed by the same evilness that Michael had. Perhaps it was touching Michael’s hand that sparked this connection.

In Halloween 5, that connection is further explored. Jamie is living at a children’s hospital; after the events of the previous movie, she has severe psychological trauma. Her telepathic bond with Michael remains evident, and Loomis is certain that this means the Michael is still alive. Loomis convinces Jamie to use her power to help him track Michael down. Eventually she agrees, as she’s able to conjure up visions of what the killer is doing.

At the end of Halloween 5, Michael, yet again, disappears after he is captured, rendering Loomis and Jamie’s attempt to capture him fruitless. But perhaps the events of the movie weren’t totally pointless, as they allow viewers a brief glimpse at Michael’s apparent humanity. At one point, Jamie and Michael have an unusual interaction; as he is about to kill her, she calls him “uncle”. Michael takes off his mask and sheds a tear. After that, Jamie tries to wipe away his tear, but when she touches his face, he begins a fit of rage and the moment of tenderness between them is over. Michael goes on to kill Jamie in the sixth Halloween installment, which takes place six years later.
