Halo Infinite Fans Would Rather Pay For The Full Game Than Just Cosmetics

Some Halo Infinite players would pay full price to unlock cosmetics in-game, rather than have everything locked behind Cores and microtransactions.

Some Halo Infinite players would gladly pay the full $60 for unlockable access to the game’s many cosmetic items, instead of having everything be a microtransaction. 343 Industries gave fans of Xbox’s long-running sci-fi FPS franchise an early surprise when Halo Infinite’s multiplayer launched under a free-to-play model last week, about a month away from the game’s full release on December 8. In the days that followed, Halo Infinite quickly broke Xbox records for the most downloads of an Xbox-developed title on Steam, with over 270,000 concurrent players during the first day alone. The title had been anticipated for some time, thanks to a roughly year-long delay following the game’s poor showing in the summer of 2020.

Halo Infinite’s cosmetic items are separated into different Armor Cores, which, once they are unlocked, will grant players access to unique armor suits like Halo Reach’s Mark V [B] and a special Samurai suit. While 343 has assured players that most of these items can be unlocked by playing the game’s multiplayer, fans have complained that progression in Halo Infinite’s Battle Pass is so slow that trying to unlock a certain look for their playable Spartan character is incredibly difficult in the game’s current state.

A couple of days ago, Reddit user jayhoe10 took to r/halo to express disappointment in how Halo Infinite requires players to pay for cosmetic items individually. They state that they would rather pay full price for the ability to more easily unlock everything through gameplay instead of microtransactions, a sentiment many in the comments section agree with. Other complaints with Halo Infinite’s unlock system include an overall lack of available customization items and the fact that everything is locked behind Cores.

Shortly after Halo Infinite’s free multiplayer went live last week, 343 Industries has confirmed that it is readjusting the Battle Pass and its progression system to address negative player feedback. In the meantime, fans have been taking full advantage of Halo Infinite’s classic Firefights and new, large-scale Big Battle game options, as well as uncovering neat tricks like taking down an enemy Wasp aircraft with a power battery and using Halo Infinite’s new Repulsor to pull off a perfect grenade throw. Additionally, some eagle-eyed players have spotted some potential future cosmetic options on CPU-controlled bots during rounds of Halo Infinite multiplayer.

While many players appreciate getting to enjoy Halo Infinite’s multiplayer free of charge ahead of its full launch on December 8, some would rather pay the full $60 price of a new game in exchange for a more streamlined cosmetic unlock system. Giving players such an option would be a reassuring gesture on the part of 343 Industries as it works to iron out the wrinkles still present in its latest Halo installment.
