A Halo Infinite player figured out a way to access campaign co-op early; however, it’s worth noting the process involves a glitch that could potentially break in-game saves. During an August 2021 development update, 343 informed fans that Halo Infinite wouldn’t ship with campaign co-op and Forge in tow. Campaign co-op should go live in the game’s Season 2 run of content, with Forge Mode on its heels in Season 3. Unfortunately, another recent update revealed that Season 1 won’t end until May 2022, meaning the wait for the two eagerly-anticipated modes will last a little longer than expected.

343 Industries and Xbox Game Studios deployed Halo Infinite earlier this month, at long last ending a wait that persisted for several years. By most accounts, the protracted development cycle was well worth it since many have called this particular entry 343’s best Halo outing to date. A fair few missteps plague the title’s single-player and online offerings, yet general impressions seem nothing short of favorable in the days following release. And as players explore every facet of the new Halo experience, some exploits are bound to rear their heads.

Twitter user nobleactual (via Kotaku) shared a trick that will allow Halo Infinite players to unlock access to campaign co-op early. The instructions seem simple enough; to activate the glitch, users must first ensure the game is offline. Players should then connect a second Xbox controller, log in to an Xbox account, and start the campaign mode with the first controller. That same controller must then be used to select the start and back buttons. Someone using Controller 2 should be able to join the team after hitting start. Nobleactual issued a couple of warnings in subsequent posts, though. For one, Halo Infinite won’t work as intended, evidenced in campaign hitches and the second player’s lack of a HUD. Worse still, the couch cooperative play-enabling bug may ruin a player’s save data, the Twitter user added.

1. Infinite must be offline 2. Connect second controller 3. Sign into an Xbox account 4. Start campaign with controller 1 5. In game, hit start and then back 6. On second controller, hit start to add the second player to the fireteam 7. Halo infinite co-op enabled!

With the aforementioned caveats in mind, it’s probably best to avoid the Halo Infinite campaign co-op glitch. What are a few more months of waiting if you can ensure in-game save data won’t be corrupted by sheer curiosity?

Halo Infinite launched across PC and Xbox earlier this month on December 8. In honor of the brand’s 20th anniversary, though, 343 deployed the multiplayer suite several weeks early. The premature rollout seems to have worked in the game’s favor, allowing users to deliver feedback that helped improve the experience in the lead-up to its street date.
