Microsoft has unveiled a special Halo Infinite-themed AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card designed to look like Master Chief’s iconic green armor. There’s only a couple months left until Halo Infinite finally releases after being delayed by more than a year due to development issues and negative feedback the game received when its gameplay was first unveiled in 2020, and Xbox’s marketing and product promotions for the next Halo have again ramped up ahead of the December launch.

With Halo Infinite’s December 8 release date closer than ever, Microsoft has collaborated with a number of companies to drum up hype for the flagship Xbox and PC game. From beverage companies like Monster Energy and Rockstar Energy to gaming hardware manufacturers like Razer – the lattermost of which is launching a line of Halo Infinite Razer PC accessories – the PC maker is pushing the game’s visibility in almost every way in light of the long delay.

The new AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Halo Infinite Limited Edition graphics card was unveiled by Xbox in a wider blog post fully detailing Halo Infinite’s PC version. The company revealed it has been working with AMD on the special green GPU for almost two years and used Master Chief’s latest generation Mjolnir armor as inspiration for the design of its custom shroud and backplate. The top of the shroud comes in the same green color as Master Chief’s Spartan armor, while the center portion features reflective, iridium gold to match his helmet visor. The backplate also features drab green intermixed with black to match the character’s undersuit, accompanied by the Halo Infinite logo, Master Chief’s 117 callsign, and a circular blue LED light to signify possible Halo Infinite villain Cortana. Xbox says the limited edition AMD graphics card won’t be going for sale, but the company will announce ways prospective owners can get their hands on one in the coming weeks.

Apart from the new graphics card, Microsoft also detailed some of the other ways AMD and Halo Infinite developer 343 Studios have collaborated. These include optimizing Halo Infinite to help it run on a wider variety of PC configurations, as well as optimizations specifically targeting systems utilizing AMD processors and GPUs. Unfortunately, one of the features that was expected to be ready for the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game won’t be included in the game at launch. According to Xbox, ray tracing won’t be in Halo Infinite until it’s added in an update some time after release.

The extent of the collaboration between Microsoft and AMD for Halo Infinite isn’t fully unexpected, as the Xbox Series X/S and even the Xbox One are driven by AMD hardware. It would make sense for the two companies to work together to make sure the game looks and runs its best on both consoles and PC, and the new Halo Infinite Radeon RX 6900 XT is just one of the ways the companies are promoting the latter release, in particular. Hopefully, a sizable number of interested Halo Infinite PC players will be able their hands on the new GPU in spite of the ongoing global microchip shortage.
