Harley Quinn Is Officially Part Of The BatFamily DC Confirms

Warning! Spoilers for Batman #111 by DC Comics below

In one of the best character developments in recent DC Comics history, Harley Quinn has officially gone from one of Batman’s biggest villains to a key member of his Bat-Family. In Batman #111, Harley admits she’s part of the Bat-Family with a perfectly timed joke as she fights crime alongside the Dark Knight and his team of heroes.

Harley Quinn has undergone some serious growth since first appearing in the Batman: The Animated Series. Characterized initially as the Joker’s girlfriend who was blinded by her love for the supervillain, Harley eventually escaped the toxic and abusive relationship and forged her own identity away from the Clown Prince of Crime. Quinn’s emancipation from the Joker led her to find new love with Poison Ivy and eventually team up with Batman in a surprisingly heroic turn. In the current Batman arc, Harley has assisted Batman and the Bat-Family and become an effective and vital member of the Caped Crusader’s team.

In Batman #111 by James Tynion IV, Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles, Batman and his team find themselves rushing to the aid of the Unsanity Collective as Miracle Molly and her tech-based family are attacked by Peacekeeper-01 and Simon Saint’s forces. After arriving at the scene, Batman, Ghost-Maker, and Harley attack the Peacekeepers. Naturally, Harley cracks a joke in the tense moment, telling her opponents, “you don’t mess with the Bat-Family unless you wanna get hit with the ******* bat!” She is pretty proud of her joke, saying, “c’mon, that was funny. Bat-Family! Get it?” as she fights hordes of enemies alongside Batman and Ghost-Maker.

While it might seem odd for Batman to fight alongside one of his former villains, it’s nothing new for the Dark Knight. Batman’s teamed up with past adversaries, including Catwoman, Red Hood, and Clayface – all of whom have been part of the Bat-Family before. Harley Quinn has proven herself to be a solid member of the team and has shown to be reformed enough where she’s not a liability to the group.

Batman is all about second chances, as he’s not afraid to take a risk on a hero or villain who may have done him wrong in the past. In Harley’s case, her villainous tendencies are well behind her – even if they still seeps out on occasion. Is she still unpredictable and chaotic? Absolutely. Harley is still Harley and that’s not going to change anytime soon. But, alongside Batman, Harley Quinn has blossomed into a valuable part of the Bat-Family and it feels like a natural progression for the character. Batman #111 is in comic book stores now.
